Hi,
As my first post here at this forum, I wish that I could remember what the old Prismacolor and Verithin color charts were from the Eagle and Berol days (1986 and back, before Empire Pencil bought out Berol and was renamed Empire Berol)??? I am, of course, from the U.S. so some of these color names are not used anymore in this country (as opposed to the U.K. where these classic names are still used more or less).

Meaning, for all those of you here on this board who have a ca. 1985-vintage set of the 12 and 24-count Verithin, and the 24, 36 and 48-count (ca. 1985) Prismacolor sets, please feel free to reply.
Thank you,

Just bumping this back to the top of the forum so more folks will see your thread.Berol prismacolors are now produced by Sanford– and while there have been some changes to the formulas used to produce the pencils, I’m pretty sure the colors themselves remain very very similar. If no one has color charts for the pre-1985 sets you’re asking about, perhaps the modern charts will work as well?
Good luck!

RosemaryRosemary,
I also wish to find out what colors were available by set (12 count, 24 count, 36, 48, 60) of the pre-Empire Berol/pre-Sanford color lineup. I would think the 72/96/120 count sets first existed during the Empire Berol period, after 1986.

March 10, 2012 at 1:30 am #1156259eBay auction for a 1986 Berol Prismacolor #960 60-count pencil set.
By the time of the year printed on this box, the Prismacolor thick-leaded colored pencils increased color availability from 60 to 72 colors. The 12 then-new colors were, from the back of the box:
988 – Marine Green
989 – Chartreuse
990 – Yellow Bice
991 – Light Yellow Green
992 – Light Aqua
993 – Hot Pink
994 – Process Red
995 – Mulberry (then called “Bright Purple”)
996 – Black Grape (then called just “Grape”)
997 – Beige
998 – Bright Violet
999 – Bright Blue Violet
(all of the above colors were then exclusive to the #972 72-count set)I wonder what the current equivalents offered in the Prismacolor thick-leaded lineup today would be close matches for: Yellow Bice, Light Yellow Green, Bright Violet and Bright Blue Violet?

March 11, 2012 at 3:03 am #1156257I definitely don’t have any sets that old, so I’m afraid I’m no help. I am curious though. May I ask your reasoning behind wanting to recreate what was offered in each set 25 years ago?

I happen to still have a very old set of 24 Eagle Verithin pencils which my mother bought for me around 1970.In case this is of interest to you I will list the colours I have:
734 White
734 1/2 Light Grey
735 Canary Yellow
736 Yellow Ochre
737 Orange
738 Grass Green
738 1/2 Light Green
739 Green
740 Ultramarine Blue
740 1/2 Sky Blue
741 Indigo
742 Violet
743 Pink
744 Scarlet Red
745 Carmine Red
745 1/2 Terra Cotta
746 Sienna Brown
747 Black
750 Vermilion
751 True Green
752 Purple
755 Golden Brown
756 Dark Brown
757 FleshThese were my favourite pencils and the range of colours seemed very exotic in the 1970s! I replaced some of the worn ones when it was possible to buy separates and still use them sometimes (though some are a bit stumpy now).

Any ideas as to what colors are contained in a 36-count Prismacolor set (PC954)? It, of course, would have all the colors from the 12-count (PC952) and 24-count (PC953) sets, plus half of the additional 24 colors from the 48-count set (PC955).
The PC952 set always had these 12 colors:
True Blue (903)
Grass Green (909)
Apple Green (912)
Canary Yellow (916)
Orange (918)
Crimson Red (924)
Violet (932)
Violet Blue (933)
Black (935)
White (938)
Sienna Brown (945)
Dark Brown (946)Until the ’90s, the PC953 set had these additional 12 colors:
Ultramarine (902)
Light Cerulean Blue (904)
Copenhagen Blue (906)
True Green (910)
Lemon Yellow (915)
Scarlet Red (Poppy Red) (922)
Scarlet Lake (923)
Pink (929)
Slate Grey (936)
Peach (939)
Yellow Ochre (942)
Burnt Ochre (943)After 1990, the following colors in the PC953 set were removed: 902, 906, 915, 923, 936, 942 and 943. They were replaced by 901, 908, 926, 937, 995, 1008 and 1034.
