Sunset at Georgian Bay

This one is from a pretty good photo ( taken way back ) of a rather audacious sunset at Fox Island in Georgian Bay. It's a 13" x 10.5" vignetted edge watercolour on ARches 140 Rough brightwhite. The sun is at the horizon line, which makes for a wealth of myriad colours in the scrub and trees.

Say what you will

Re: Sunset at Georgian Bay

Nice one! Won't there be more oranges and yellows on the ground etc , and also, longer shadows given the sun is on the horizon ?

Re: Sunset at Georgian Bay

Kiran - you're right. There should be more shadows in reality. But I wanted the forground to be the lead up to the island and did the reverse. I know it cheats a bit - but that as the mood the way I remember it when I saw it.

But you are right about the shadows....thanks

Re: Sunset at Georgian Bay

the touch of blue for water really helps enhance everything else
I too would have given a more brilliant sky
could be the contrast would appreciate the foreground all the more

Love this! I can appreciate the way you've kept the attention on the foreground. It really grabs you.

Re: Sunset at Georgian Bay

Unk, a beautiful paiinting with some wonderful glowing passages. Well done!

A gentle question: since the important areas are the middle ground and background (sky), if you do this one again (or one like it), would you consider maximizing the sky and minimizing the foreground?

Just a thought!

Sling paint!
