Rust 'n' Whites (Plein Air Digital)

My first plein Air from our new home in Costa Rica. This bit of rail wreckage rusting away amongst the flowers is just down the hill from the house. An abandoned line that probably brought various products down to the Central Valley. The combination was just too good to pass by. So, yesterday, I spent a few hours with my laptop and sketch pad getting all the essential details down. This afternoon, I finished it at home. 100% Fine Art Digital from scratch (no photo) Working size appx 3000x2400 pxl. at 300 ppi. (8x10) In style of impressionistic oils on canvas.

Re: Rust 'n' Whites (Plein Air Digital)

This is very beautiful - compo, colours, contrast between old rusty machinery and those delicate white flowers - totally "WOW", my compliments!

And you say this is a digital painting - done on a computer???
In this case, I'm doubly in awe: I've given up trying to use the painting app I bought for my iPad - so very difficult, just can't do it. I find it much easier (and faster!!) painting the "old-fashioned" way!

This is just gorgeous! You are so very good with the digital paintings. I would have thought it was oil paint!

What a great combination of items in your painting Skylar! A really attractive scene.
Lovely detail on two of the wheel strokes. This is the 'impressionistic oils on canvas' style? Is it difficult to control detail and shades of a colour? You have mastered these things but.....are they hard for a beginner to achieve?
Like Peak, I feel more confident with a paintbrush.

That was a gem you found hiding there Skylar - and the 'find' has made a stunning painting.

What a treasure!

I love this! The scene is fabulous with the wheel, the rust, and the flowers, and the work is exquisite...amazing that you can do that digitally. I can't manage digital tools well enough to do anything, never mind a painting as gorgeous as this one!

Definitely like this piece! What software were you using? Do you use a tablet I assume?

Re: Rust 'n' Whites (Plein Air Digital)

Thanks so much for the great feed-back. I'm still not sure if this might not belong in landscapes. Kinda hard to categorize. Maybe there should be a "Landscape Still life" !!

I somehow missed this one before. Skylar, this is absolutely gorgeous with the old rusted machinery with flowers growing wildly about.
