Porcelain Flowers
This is a picture of my porcelain Roses...this is a technique called 'Porcelana en Frio'...(cold porcelain) in Spanish. I make this from corn starch or household starch...mixed with other chemicals, plastic type carpinter glue and then cook it in an old pan. The paste has glycerine and Formaldyhyde added and can be tinted with oil paint. I like to also paint with oil paint mixed with Turps. Once dry...this can be sprayed with varnish. The flowers are made on a wire coated with florist 's green tape. I take a small pear shaped ball of the mix and mold in the palm of my hand to form the petals...they are so fine that they are translucent at the edges. The leaves, which have veins are molded onto mold of a leaf, the edges are rolled with a small stick to make them flute and go a bit wavy.

This is roses and violets....
And the Lilac...this takes so much time to do because each wire needs to be bound first...then hours of making little flowers to make up the bunches.

Hi Gina
Thank you for posting a picture of your lovely flowers They truly are works of art...and they certainly should be in this forum They remind me a little of the flowers and mini sculptures I do with a mixture of bread (no crusts) and carpenters glue. I would love to know your recipe if you would be willing to share it with us! I would definitely give this material a try. The lilacs are fabulous!

Very nicely done... reminds me of the sugar paste used on subtleties in the Middle Ages... (no turps in that, though!)

Hi Gina,
These are so beautiful, I am so happy you shared them with us The lilac's are a sentimental favorite for me. You must be a very patient person.

Gina,
These are terrific! They're really lifelike. I can't imagine how much patience it takes to make these. Where did you learn how to make them? They're a great addition to the sculpture forum; thanks for posting them.

How beautiful! They look like an awfullot of work to me! Maybe you could do a demo for us sometime? I'd love to learn more about how you make these!

Hi
Thanks for the kind words...these flowers do take a lot of time but are a labour of love because I enjoy doing them. I don't get to spend as much time on them as I would like because my first love is oil painting.
I am willing to do a step by step demo of making these and try to translate the ingredients into English. Please give me time though...I am on wheels ( only for a few more weeks I hope) and everything I need getting from my studio has to be brought by my D.H. who can't find anything... LOL

Gina..makes my head swim! Start with some chemistry, add a little culinary and pastry skills , painting skills, molding expertise and plant anatomy!!!!!
Results are great but fear that I would have as good a chance of building a rocket while riding a unicycle as I would of making these.
