This is my new commission a trio of lovely Border collie type dogs.
I will do this stage by stage so I hope it works out!
I am using Mountboard again, a full sheet A1. This is Daler Rowney Ash grey, which has a lovely linen texture to it.
First I have used a grid to size up the basic drawings of the collies. VERY time consuming, but essential for eye and feature placement in my opinion!
I usually start on the left hand side and for some reason with the ears!
I am using too many colours to list (Though I will if you want) but includes 3 or 4 greys, an umber and sienna, ivory black, white, cream and lilac.
A combination of Derwent watercolour, caran d'ache supracolour and Im trying the pablo.
First layers of hair going on. I only shade the deeper & flatter areas, for everything else I build up as hairs. The ear has lots of light catching it, still a way to go before it looks like light and not patchy coloured hair! I always go light to dark, looking at the ref and picking out the lightest shade to start, layering on darker colours. You can see the first layer on the head in greys, the ear has had 3 or 4.
You can see the linen effect as the camera has picked it up brighter than RL, I love it!
Thanks for looking in!
