Camel - Fabric

Mornin' all

Just thought I'd post this piece in-progress. I took the pic at the Philadelphia Zoo a couple weeks ago. I cropped it and played around in Photoshop until I had something I really liked then began the process in fabrics. Has a way to to go yet but thought I'd post it anyway. Ideas and suggestions are always welcome.
Di

This is fabulous Diane! I love the colors you've used. You did a great job on catching the shadows, especially the eye. Great work, look forward to more.

This is coming along very well. I look forward to seeing the finished piece. Are you going to bring down the fabric from the top down below the camels head?

Thanks for all the positive comments! I've done a fair bit of work on it this week so I'll try to post something later today or tomorrow.
Sassybird: I did bring down a bit of it and took a little of the lower fabric up as well.

Hi all

Just an update on this guy. Haven't really committed to the right borders yet....they're just stuck there for now. I've spent most of the morning sewing down all the colored pieces in the camel as seen in the zoom below. I will also do some "thread drawing" afterward to enhance the hair etc.

Diane,
It's looking great, I just love this one. I don't know what else you would do to it but it looks great as is.

Hi Diane
This is SUPER!!!I Love it.
What a great idea to use photoshop to start off with.

It would look real good at my house with one of camel whistles

Thanks all for the nice replies. Thought I'd post a final pic of it with borders etc. Just a little threadwork to do and it's done.

Leaflin: Yep, it certainly would! Actually when I first downloaded the photo I thought "now, what am I going to do with a portrait of a camel?" LOL and I thought of your wonderful little whistles and decided it was begging to become something different Finished size is about 36".

Di

To make the leaves in the border I chopped up some related fabrics into tiny pieces with a rotary cutter and adhered them to a backing fabric with fusible web between...then added a lot of topstitching to keep it all together. The resulting texture is teriffic!

This is just beautiful!
The colours radiate on my screen.

I Want So Bad To Touch It

We need to invent that "texture option" button you mentioned Di.

We could rule the world
