Off-Topic; Storing drawings in 8 flat file drawers

That's a useful piece! I was going to make something very like that for my blank papers and matting and put it under a bed since it would be a bit big to sit out. How big is it? Looks like pine? I see the drawers run on tracks which is very reliable .. butt joints? Dovetails?

The top is 5/4 pine joined side to side with biscuits;the frame is 3/4 inch birch ply and the drawers are poplar. The piece is 17 in. high and 68 X 53, perfect for a models stand. I built another one that's in my basement that's about 40x42 that holds 10 drawers so the whole thing is about 80 inches wide. the drawers are mortised and glued and screwed together with a 1/4" floated bottom. I'll show other things of interest.I doubled up the 3/4" ply in the center so it's 1 1/2". strong enough to hold a model.

You're right about it being a bit off-topic...even though it is a device for storing drawings...so on that fact alone, I will leave it in here but change the title to reflect the content.

The problem is that there really isn't an appropriate place at WC to post and discuss woodworking in general. I buiild wooden boxes which in many ways are works of art due to the woods chosen and the way I use the figure. I would actually like to post them on their own someplace here, but instead I must mix them in with a drawing. Now that we have a weekly chat thread it would be allowed to put them in there as well. The only other place I know is at the woodworking forums at www.taunton.com.

How great it would be to have the talent to build things like this. They look great! My father was an engineer, back in the day where they used huge drawing tables and had those big giant flat file units to store blueprints etc. My brother has the flat file units, 2 of them with several drawers each, stored in his basement. He is holding them for me till I have the space for them later this year.
