Hi Crissy I loved your article it gave me a few more insights on how to advance my inking skills I see you dont like ball point pens very well, but IMHO i find them as great tools for shading, almost like a pencil if the right pressure is applied and those gel pens make some pretty good texturizing techniques as well I may have to post some to show you what i mean and thanks againf or the info it is greatly appreciated

Re: Basics In Ink Drawings

amazing article; very consise and informative

on splattering: some books I have read (mostly the ones by Japanese manga/anime artists) recommend running your finger against an old toothbrush that has been loaded with SOME ink (do not saturate the brush!); or you could use any stiff brush you have lying around (another option is to use a ruler or some other thin, stiff object to make the brush splatter, but it isn't as responsive or easy to control as your own finger)

I don't quite agree with ballpoints being "bad"- they're very portable, and good for fast, spontaneous sketches. I get good results with them, so it all depends on your personal style and prefference (I, however, have had nothing but bad luck when it comes to gel pens)

I like ball points too, but they aren't permenent and they have a tendency to not write as smooth as some other pens. Wotht it for their portability in sketching and such though.
