Paint Skin Part III Re-Animation

Perhaps you just read my latest installment on paint skin, and you are wondering how I could come to such an unual path. I really don't see it as such, but life forces us into many turns. Perhaps it was from watching too much science fiction. There are moments when I feel like Dr. Frankenstein, "ITS A LIVE"! and hope that my creation has awakend.

So how do you feel about the life and death of art?

Thank you Al for another brilliant article. I found it very thought provoking. I will get back to you when I have organised my thoughts.

In the meantime ... here are links to all three of Als Articles on Paint Skins. They are all extremely interesting.

Okay, I have got to try that. And I know just the project for it, too.

Re: Paint Skin Part III, The Re-Animation

Call it reverse engineering.
I have uploaded a new work, which uses a multitude of mediums, such as acrylic paint skin, oil paint, oil stick, enamel paint on collaged hand cut gear designs mounted on canvas. The work measures 36"w x 60"h and is among my newest series. It is not just about re-animation, but at the risk of being too literal, it was inspired as a kind of cross between science fiction and and medical autopsy. It reveals and exaggerates a female symbolic mechonism. The work is titled Ironica. Any new thoughts about the work?

Re: Paint Skin Part III, The Re-Animation

Greetings All,
I have posted 3 articles concerning paint skin, and I feel like have covered most all there is to say about the subject. But for any of you who still wish to converse, remember I will be exhibiting at Art Expo in New York from March 1-5th at the Javits Center. I have VIP passes available for anyone who plans to attend.Just email me your address.
Here is one painting that will be in the show. It is called Dream Machine and is a mixed media piece measuring 72"w x 60"h.

That must be pretty wild-looking up close. How thick is it?

Surprisingly, it is not very thick. Many of my works, which have used paint skin were layered very thickly. But my new pieces are not so thick. The depth is just and illusion, though there are a couple levels applied. The overall thickness is less than .125" Any paintskin that is in the work is just there for an accent.
