Where Should I Post My Art? -- Guide to the Forums
Artie strikes again....and it's a homerun!!
His assistants have saved the day once more with a timely article outlining the forums and where you should post your art. I know this will be helpful to new members who can't decide which forum they need to check out first!!
Thanks Artie!

Re: Where Should I Post My Art? -- Guide to the Forums
Hello, I have been searching for hours, and STILL don't know where to post, even though I did read the article on "where to post".
I was hoping for a suggestion???
I am learning to use Genesis heat set paints. I would love to use "real" oil paints, but have severe allergies...... I love using the Genesis paints.
They have the buttery feel of oils, I can use them thick and impressionistic if I want like oils, I use many oil painting techniques, minus the odors...
The problem: there is no place on WetCanvas that really fits except the Oil painting forum, unless one wants to go with subject matter (which can be impractical if one paints a wide variety). And there is definately a LACK of hospitality towards the newcomer using Genesis paints in that forum...
There was talk of creating a new forum, but I have not found one created for heat-set mediums (and there are several, not just Genesis paints). Have I just overlooked it?
If not, where can you recommend??
I have a finished project I would love to share, but to be honest, I am just not interested in debating those wishing to attack Genesis, for whatever reason. I would love to find a "home" here where I can feel welcome, and feel like I "fit in".
Thank you for any suggestions.
Sincerely,
Loretta in Oregon

Re: Where Should I Post My Art? -- Guide to the Forums
I know in the past there has been some debate over what genesis paints are some of the arguments got heated, but many of those threads are very old and I dont think you need to worry about starting something if you post your images in that forum.
Unfortunately at this moment we do not have a forum for heat set paints. It seams that for the most part people are posting their work in the oil forum. But other options could be the mixed/alternative media forum. And ofcorse you are always welcome to post around in the various media-specific forums.
I understand that you are worried about starting a debate though. But really, I think a lot of the debates are long old. Maybe I would suggest you contact one of the moderators or guides in the Oil Forum and ask them for their advice as to where to post your work. Perhaps they would have a better alternative.
Unfortunately our site doesnt have forums for every single type of media out there. But we try and be accepting of new matierials in similar forums. I hope you can find a place that is right for you.

Re: Where Should I Post My Art? -- Guide to the Forums
Hi Loretta
I am one of the Moderators in the Oils forum.
The Genesis paints are not strictly Oil paints in the technical sense - they are thermoplastic paints. They don't mix with Oil paints, or use the same mediums etc.
Furthermore, historically, there have been some reservations expressed about them in the Oils forum, for sure.
However I can promise you that you ARE welcome to post work done with them in the Oils forum, and the Mods there will ensure that things do not spill over into offtopic debate. If there are problems you are very welcome to draw them to my attention or the attention of my fellow Mods there (obviously we can't all be around all the time).
Alternatively, if you post into one of the subject-specific forums such as portraits, landscape, still life, etc where any and all media are acceptable without question.
Hope this helps, Loretta
(and thanks for bringing this to my attention Axl - good to have you around again! )
Dave

Re: Where Should I Post My Art? -- Guide to the Forums
Thank you Axl and Dave, for your suggestions. I will check out the alternative/mixed site again, and if it doesn't fit, I might venture into the oil paint forum, and see if there is anyone else using Genesis paints there that would like to have discussions.
Thanks,
Loretta in Oregon

Re: Where Should I Post My Art? -- Guide to the Forums
You could try the watercolor or acrylic forums, the Abstract/Contemporary forum, or even the Mixed Media forum. Cross-posting is ok too, as long as you don't post the same message to more than 2 or 3 forums. Hope that helps!

Hi Kimber can you post one so we can see what it looks like then we would have a better idea on where you should post them.

Re: Where Should I Post My Art? -- Guide to the Forums
Hi all, Been trying to understand where to post, where to chat etc for ages- but seems like unless I can get on line every day, I get lost in the rush! So guess I'll call it quits for now. Love to paint- love to chat paintings, but hate the task of finding the right page!!!. I did however receive 9 (nine) e mails of the latest newsletter!!!!It's a shame but I think I've just run out of energy for the WC website! So I'm off now to paint instead!!! Y'all take care now

Don't give up yet, Yi Lian! What kind of painting do you do? If you tell us a bit more, we can point you in the right direction. It's a big place.

Cross-posting is permitted at WetCanvas so long as you don't exceed posting the same image in more than two (or three, at most) and many members find it helpful because they get different kinds of feedback in different forums. However, there is no automatic way to cross-post. The easiest thing to do is post in the first forum, then click the 'reply' to your own post so you can copy both the text and the image link, then start a new post in the second forum.
