Bobcats - thoughts please.

I posted one of these earlier in the gallery, but I shouldn't have. I'm glad I got only one comment...it is quite bad.

Here are both attempts - the top is the second try. I really like the loose style...my thinking is that there are things I can't do in acrylic that I can do in watercolor. I prefer to use the watercolor for those things.

Its emphasis on lights and darks, and the "Dean Crouser" look (if there's a name for that style, I'm unaware.)

I seem to be doing okay until I get to the stripes...the details that make him a Bobcat. They look awful...to harsh. When I try to soften them, they diffuse too much and lose their distinction as stripes. Any thoughts?

Thomas

Hi, Kaylen. Love your cat - we've lost a few that way, too. I will try to find the photo on line...I am using a paper copy.

I took a more minimalist approach - left more white space. I think it's better.

Not wild about my background, though.

The minimalist approach is nice. I guess you have to decide whether you want to go with that or add more details.

I prefer the third also.

Specifically for the background, I think I liked the background on the first one the best.
