Question Least favorite color?

Just a quick question that I think will have interesting responses ... what is Your least favorite color (and brand if you want to say) to paint with?

I expect this will vary widely based on what you like to paint!

I'm struggling with Indian Red (corman student). It is good for the broad side of a barn but dang is it opaque.

...now how many people will say black or white

Re: Least favorite color?

Burnt Umber. It dries out too quickly and falls out of my palette. It can be substituted by Burnt Sienna and Ultramarine blue.

Re: Least favorite color?

Agree about that drying out Doug. I like Raw Umber better

Alizarin crimson does the same to a lesser degree and not a favourite, though necessary sometimes in mixes, Prefer Perylene maroon.

Black I don’t have as you can mix it easily and more interestingly, tipping the colour bias.

I know some people hate the pthalos, blue and green but I love them and they are essential with my subjects.

Re: Least favorite color?

I have yet to discover color that I dont like... but I do notice that I dont use Phthalo Green and Sap Green... these are the least used color in my cotman sketcher set... so I guess green watercolor is my current dislike color..

Re: Least favorite color?

I don't have any colours that I just don't like. I do mix my own burnt umber-like colour using my burnt sienna and ultramarine blue. I mix my own black because I like to cool it down with blues or warm it up with reds. Actually, I mix a basic black with enough pigment to fill a well.

I use a couple of tube greens as a base for mixing. And the phthalos are gorgeously transparent colours that are great for glass objects, etc.

Nope... can't think of anything that I'd remove because I never use it. My cobalt blue comes close, but it's so pretty laid down in a graduated wash.

PINK --
were it the last color on earth I would hunt madly for a piece of coal or light a match and make some charcoal.

Cadmium. Especially cadmium reds. I love the colors, it's the pigments I don't like. I constantly struggle with their opacity and their handling.

Payne's Grey - it's totally unnecessary. I don't like convenience mixes in general, or any paint with PBk in it.

Re: Least favorite color?

Lots of great responses!

I can totally see the phthalo colors in glassware --- Vaseline/Carnival/Emerald glass especially. So pretty.
I dont recall if I have a burnt umber, but I doubt I'd buy one after having a few of you guys call it out.

After looking at my paints, i'd say that any ORANGE is my least used color thus far. I think I could get by without one an not even notice since I have 3 or 4 reds/yellows to choose from.

Re: Least favorite color?

LOL, Im not really a fan of the sacred PO49 Quin Gold. I think I fell in love with PY150 Nickel Azo Yellow, and was able to mix with that to encompass what PO49 does.I don't use any tube greens, though I see the value with making 2 color blacks. I think I'm somewhat of a color floozie, because I can see how I want to experience all of them, but I have my favorites and mains!

Re: Least favorite color?

agreeing on Paynes grey - I was taught at uni that it's basically burnt umber and ultramarine usually, and though some companies do have slightly different mixes it simply isn't sensible to buy it. So easy to mix and get variations in grey

I use Payne's Grey (along with sepia) for value studies.

Re: Least favorite color?

I wouldn't call it my least favorite, but my least used color is green...any and all greens. Don't know why!

Sling paint,
