Recommended "starter" palette

I have a few friends who are keen on trying watercolor - but unsure if they're seriously interested and hence unwilling to spend lots of money.

What are your recommended palettes for newbies? Ideally a minimum number of colors (6?) that's enough to get them started. Good enough quality not to be frustrating!

Some options I've identified - none are great:

DANIEL SMITH Alvaro Castagnet Master Artist Watercolor Set (10 Pack), 5ml - decent colors, OK price, but will need to set up

Daniel Smith / Jane Blundell - ultimate mixing palette - love the colors, but way too expensive

Mission Gold Water Color Set, 12 Color - good price, not sure about quality; will need to set up palette/pans

Re: Recommended "starter" palette

here is some good starter set...

Jackson's : Artist Watercolour Paint : Half Pan : Set of 12
: 36 USD
Golden QoR : Watercolour Paint : Introductory Set of 6 Colours : 5ml Tubes: 32 USD
Daniel Smith : Watercolour Paint : Essentials Set : 5ml : Set of 6: 40 USD
Holbein : Watercolour Paint :Introductory Set Of 6 x 5ml : Tubes: 22 USD
Old Holland : Watercolour Set : Intro 6X6ml Tubes: 35 USD
ShinHan : Premium Extra Fine Watercolour Paint : 15ml : Main Colours A Set of 6: 32 USD
St Petersburg White Nights : Watercolour Paint : 12 Pan Set: 27 USD

most of them are split primary palette, some of them are primary-secondary palette..

I suggest holbein if you wanted the lowest starting cost... if you also something with a decent palette, I suggest white night...
