Old tree McGee

This is 12x16 inches on pastelmat. I did this about a week ago. Mix of mungyos, neopastel and sennelier. I used that Bordeaux senn for darks on the big branches at the top. I love trees, especially large, old trees like this. I like the feeling I have inside when around them. Thanks for looking, C&C appreciated.

From one tree-hugger to another, he is majestic! The Lakota tribes thought of trees as "standing people," and I can't think of a better description.

Love all those blues, and it's nice to see that plum you recently talked about in practical use. Terrific color for a dark value!

Re: Old tree McGee

Thank you all. And yes Terri, I feel right at home hiking through the woods. I used some different sky blues, greys to indicate branches on the far side. dark blue/brown are my darks with that plum senn in there as well in certain spots. I didn't use white in this one either. I have a light grey senn that worked perfect as my highlight

Re: Old tree McGee

Do I see a face in a cowl there at the base of your excellent tree? I am seeing this on a phone display and my vision is slightly warped, but I think I see a face (or two). Was it intentional?

Maybe that's old McGee, Terri? I think there's a story here, and if not, there should be!

I'm glad someone else sees him

Re: Old tree McGee

It's definitely not intentional. And now that you point it out, I see it so clear...Perhaps that is really McGee channelling through?

Thanks for pointing that out Lamar, and Terri for reaffirming. I can see it so easily. I'll just say this...not trying to get all hokey pokey here...But I do believe that when we paint, draw, sketch, sculpt, or anything creative; we enter into that space. On a subconscious level, i think we tap into another level/realm/what have you. I know I can feel it on an energy level.

Ok back to earth now.
Thank you both and you too sykirobe

Re: Old tree McGee

I'm with you on this one, Rich. What were we just saying about the standing people? I never question this stuff, just smile and accept these gifts from the universe.

This one is even more special now. Not much escapes Lamar, I am realizing that!

Hi Rich,
This is a great landscape. I love the grayish palette, and the gray light

Hi Rich. This is just lovely. I get a real sense of the volume and texture of the tree, and a feeling that it has a history. Love the colours, too.
