1st acrylic, in honor of my dad

My dad was a painter, and he passed away on August 16. Today would have been his 81st birthday. I set up his easel, paints, and brushes in my artroom and did my first acrylic painting, based on a photo of my parents' front yard. It has its problems and I wish Dad was here to tell me to what to do. It helped feel closer to him, though, using all his supplies.

12x16, various brands of student grade paints.

What a great, sad story. I'm sure your father would be proud.

Love the colors on this, and nice job on the highlighting and giving he forest a nice sense of depth.

For a first, you did quite well and I know your Dad would love that you're using his supplies to honor him.

Re: 1st acrylic, in honor of my dad

Thank you all for the kind words. I hope to keep practicing with Dad's paints in between my own graphite projects.

Art has been my therapy for the last several weeks, even though I had put aside a half finished graphite portrait. Now that his birthday has passed, I hope I can get back to my "normal" pieces enough to finish the requests I have lined up. I found that quick sketches helped without the more intensive concentration I require when using graphite -- things like charcoal, soft pastels, or a small drawing on toned paper that only required highlights and shadows. I need my brain back before finishing the portrait for charity!

Very sorry for your loss. I think your Dad would be very proud of your effort, great use of color.

My father died a couple of years ago. He was a painter. I know some of what you are dealing with. Sharing his paints is quite a gift.
