Starting a new project

I took somer reference photos one hot evening at a fishing pier the last week in Aug. They were taken during the final 15 minutes of daylight.
Here's is one of the reference photos I decided to paint.

In my sketch, I decided my painting would be about the beautiful sunset with only one of the fishermen and the setting sun.

I'm uncertain how I'm going to handle the chain link fence as I don't want it to dominate the foreground. If anyone has any ideas on this please share them with me.
Thanks for your help.

Maybe you don't even need the fence, or could make it a more simple board rail, or wooden posts with heavy rope instead of rails.

This would be a great idea but I offer these at local fairs and need to maintain a sense of place. Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier is very popular in the area and should be of interest to area folks and visitors.

I think I'm going to show just a few areas of the fencing and let the viewer fill in the rest.

I think you will be able to leave the pencil to indicate the mesh fence.

Initial wash of M. Grahm Quin Rose hoping capture the subtle rose glow of the sun set.

Good suggestion. I can always adjust if more color is needed.

Second wash starting sky washes
This is a wash of Daniel Smith New Gamboge and M Graham Q Rose to bring the orange into the sky.

Thanks you. It was very hot that day with code orange air quality alerts. A nice soft breeze off the ocean cleared the air a bit and the grandkids had a blast checking the fish they were catching at the pier that night. Hopefully this painting will work out and I'll have a nice remembrance of that evening to share with them.

Re: Starting a new project

a bit late now, but I would have applied the orange wash right down the page, lightening it from the horizon down.

Re: Starting a new project

Just for practice I roughed in the rest . Learned much from this attempt.
I think this painting has possibilities. If I can execute.
