Wasatch Hollow - Plein Air

This is an area where I often go for morning walks. The early sunlight is great. I decided to try to paint it today. The sun came up and the scene was stunning for about 5 minutes. The rest of the time was mostly cloudy with brief moments of good light. About 2.5 hours. Still great fun. C&C Welcome. Gary

Re: Wasatch Hollow - Plein Air

I forgot to mention that I had company, a scrub jay, who assumed I was there to steal his acorns. He would perch on the fence and scold me, and then swoop down to feed. He did not care much for the painting or my ancestry. Gary

Thanks Sarah. At those times that the sun was out, the light and color were great. Gary

Your painting is a good interpretation of what a painter should do, organize, and imagination. Very nice work, and you have included a nice story with the bird. There is usually one story at least when paintings outdoors good thing it wasn’t tourist! Haha! Thanks for sharing really enjoy your paintings.

My eye is well directed to those beautiful trees which are nicely balanced by the softer foreground - Well Painted Gary !

Re: Wasatch Hollow - Plein Air

Thanks RG. Plein air certainly forces one to focus. Sadly, the paintings never look as good at home as they did in the field - at least in my case. Sounds like you have painted outdoors yourself.

Thanks Michael. It is a great scene that I wish I could have done greater justice.

Thanks again to everyone. Gary

I love this, the palette, the movement, the light. All work together well.

Re: Wasatch Hollow - Plein Air

Thanks Arnie. One nice thing about acrylics plein air is that you do not have time to overwork the brushstrokes. I think it helps sometimes.

Thanks Aly. I make more use of earth tones with acrylics as it is harder to muddy your colors. It makes a nice palette to my taste.

Thanks Ann. I enjoyed my company as well, though the feeling was obviously not mutual.

Thanks Loretta. Plein air is so much fun, even if seldom a perfect result.

Thanks again. Gary

So lovely. Love the purple path contrasted against those gorgeous yellows etc.
