Re: Explosive Evening

For me that lone dark cloud is too dark /eye grabbing on that edge, and distracts form the rest of the scene...
Possibly even a dark cloud would get some soft edge highlights from that strong sunlight..
It also feels a bit too pointy shaped comparing to the rest of the sky & clouds..
I think if that dark cloud could be adjusted or removed, the painting would be much stronger..

Re: Explosive Evening

I lost a longer critique, seems the site keeps kicking me out...
anyway, very beautiful and intense colors in the bottom 2/3! Especially vibrant for acrylic.
The thing is, the sky shows two different times of day, like sunset smashed beneath the blue of afternoon. Try for more transition, much of sky is about that.

Or you could consider cropping it just before the blue starts.

Im confused about the ground, is the blue at bottom left water? The dark cloud looks reflected on what I thought was solid ground and the distant purple looks like water but reflects the sky the least. Im ok with the mystery though, the colors and shapes work in their own way. Maybe theres snow and ice?

Re: Explosive Evening

Hi, Dylananda. Love this subject! Sky and water and light. 🙂

I think this piece would benefit from the use of soft and hard edges to show waves, reflections, and clouds. Tough with acrylics but it's doable (using dry brush techniques).

Thanks for sharing! Hope to see more of your work here.

Kind regards,

Re: Explosive Evening

The one thing that bothers me the most is the splotches in the sky. They look like UFO's or cotton balls. Get out and look up. Clouds can be quite interesting. You might also check out u tube.
