Blacklistedart.com for high-end priced art

Hi fellow artists,

Has anyone had experience with or know anything about the new ecommerce gallery for art at high-end prices - blacklistedart.com? For artists who have priced and sold their originals for $10,000 and up, this looks like an interesting new effort to seriously cultivate the middle market for art in online sales. Always good to check into credentials of new venues and their proprietors before extending trust and goods. They offer free signup and membership for two years, if you are selected from the applicant pool, then 30% commissions on sales. If they've got the goods then I've got the goods, hope it is viable.

Thanks,

Jim Freeman

Re: Blacklistedart.com for high-end priced art

This post reminds me of a talk I went to at RISD the other day about pricing one's art. Some kook--I mean, guy--got up during the question period and wanted to know if anyone else was making $200/square inch. Sure, the whole room was. His last painting sold for $2 million. Or maybe it was $200 mill. Whatever. Just like everyone wants to sign up for something called blacklistedart.com because you know, it sounds really reputable with a name like that. People are just swamping that site! Even though it is still listed in Google as in beta.

Re: Blacklistedart.com for high-end priced art

I would expect it to be swamped. Looking further into their company I see that a lot of their board is involved with Blockchain and cryptocurrency, which gets me thinking about things like "art as a financial instrument", artificial scarcity, money laundering, fractional ownership, ArtMiami etc. The name Blacklisted doesn't engender trust either.

Cryptocurrency and art looks like an interesting topic to explore here. "One ring to control them all" or beautiful new frontier in income for artists?

I figured the name, "Blacklisted", referred to those people (collectors and artists) who left the circle of high-end galleries and were invited not to come back.

Why would anyone have to go thru a Security Check before getting to their site? I really don't trust that kind of run a round.

This looks like a place where drug dealers can launder their money. Money laundering goes on with some of the online galleries (not that the gallery itself is doing it but so-called "artists" selling works for thousands of dollars over and over and over). Just add cryptocurrency to make it even more "secure."
