Vango - thoughts?

An artist friend brought up the Vango app (although she hasn't tried it, either) so I have been looking at it. They take a 30% commission, similar to a regular gallery, and it seems like in return they do more promotion than other online sites where you have to drive the traffic to your store all by yourself. It does look like they have sold some stuff at some pretty hefty price points.

Any experiences or thoughts, good or bad?

Yes, they did recently go out of business. If you are interested you could try Zatista and Saatchi galleries online also. They have been around for quite a while and have been fine to sell through from my experience.

Ugallery is also a good online gallery to sell though.

John22, have you used ugallery? I visited their site recently and although the selection was way less than saatichiart, it seemed better quality.

Yes, I have sold on ugallery for a number of years now. They take 1/2 or more on the sale. I have sold slow but steady and some of my higher priced work here over time. They are good to work with. Heard that they are accepting only a small percent of artists who apply to sell there now.

Re: Vango - thoughts?

I have done better selling on online galleries that have a smaller number of artists. Less competition that way and more selective on their artists.

I noticed they ask for ten works before they accept a person. They do seem to weed out the Chinese sweatshop art too.

Re: Vango - thoughts?

Yes, they do a good job of selecting artists with a body of work before showing there.

If you don't mind, could you share the online galleries you are referring to?
Thanks.

Re: Vango - thoughts?

I have also sold though Artfinder, Zatista and Saatchi art. The last two have had more sales for me than the first one.

Re: Vango - thoughts?

Basically is seems that for the professional online gallery's, the ones that represent fewer artists are the ones that have worked best for me. Less competition once a shopper gets there.
