ACEO Seagull xPost Miniatures

2.5x3.5 mixed media on book page adhered to sketchbook paper completed today from one of many seagull photos. Sketched in charcoal I also added small amounts of ink with Micron 01 pen. Watercolor and gouache added for color.
C&C welcome

Re: ACEO Seagull xPost Miniatures

I've noticed that you like to paint with book pages as your "canvas" and I think it's really interesting. Do you choose your pages from books that are about your subject? Like, for this painting, did you choose a page from Moby Dick, for instance? I just chose Moby Dick because it's the one that came to mind, not because I actually think you chose a page from that book.

Also, I notice you said you mounted the page onto watercolor paper. I've always wondered how you could paint on a book page without it becoming all warped and wrinkled.

I don't really look for text matching my subject, just get lucky sometimes. These are from an old Readers Digest hardback that had four books included.
The paper used in printing books has to be acid free for them to last lifetimes it is just not very thick but is sturdy enough to use. I adhere them to same size watercolor paper for easier handling, too.

Great Idea using the paper from old Reader's Digest Books. One way to recycle.

There's always a big supply of books for free sitting outside various places during the summer. It's a really good place to get art supplies.

Yes, it is. I've not done one in awhile.

beautiful painting as always Kay! Why I cannot sketch as well as you do? I try and try and think that will never happen! (as my good English too! I try and try and... so on...!!)
