Sleeping pets

Drawn from life. The photo was taken later. We took in the cat about a month ago. She is old, lazy and completely adorable! But she is usually quite cautious of the dog, so I just had to capture the moment
The dog was done with micron brush pen and wc. Cat was drawn with a water soluble pen and wet, some wc added. Old coffee in the background. Maybe the cat should be darker? Unfortunately some of the colour was lost in the photograph. especially in the background.

Re: Sleeping pets

Love your photo of the two pets obviously getting along fine, and kudos to you for taking in an elderly animal and giving her a home. As a black & white cat lover, I'll say darken the cat in your painting as it is high key now. That would move the eye around more IMHO. Love this one!

Re: Sleeping pets

Thanks CaliAnn and Kay! I had a lot of fun with this one. I darkened Lucy (that's our cat's name) and added a touch of blue for the shadows.

Lovely! I didnt realise the cat was a black and white until I saw your photo. I like your 2nd painting better but both are lovely!
Cats and dogs can sometimes be friends. My old Labrador "Rusty" and our black & white cat were inseperable. When Rusty passed away our cat hated every other dog afterwards and would try to attack them. She would chase any other dog, spitting and hissing furiously! She was quite frightening. She lost her sparkle and mourned for Rusty until she too died. They had been such great friends.

Re: Sleeping pets

Thanks! It's interesting that your cat bonded to Rusty. Did they grow up together? We were worried at first, because our dog doesn't like cats (he tries to chase them in the garden) and she was not used to dogs. No one else could take her, though. She was adopted from TEARS. Her owner had to move, but he was very fond of her (he still visits her sometimes) But Sgt Pepper (yes, that's our dog) seems fine with her. They're not exactly friends but give it time It's nice having a cat!
