Curious Kitten

Pastels and pastel pencils on white charcoal paper - 9 1/2" x 7 1/2"

Based on another of my pastels painted for our 2016 Christmas card - same kitten but with a red Christmas ornament. This one is for Birthday cards.

Re: Curious Kitten

Cute little fellow!
I'm new to pastels but from my trials I've noticed Pastelmat would be better paper for it. Lines in the paper (fur specially) look truncated and I've noticed that happens if you haven't fill the background before you do your fur. Compare the lines in the the ball's contour, they do not look like that because is the filled with green before the white goes over.

Re: Curious Kitten

Beautiful pastel painting and isnt he just the cutest little kitten!
Well Im not new to pastels being a member of Pastel Artists of New Zealand for many years - and I think youve done a great job with your pastel rendering! The different look in the kittens fur adds to the various textures in your painting and adds to the appeal of your pastel painting! It's the varying textures we can achieve with pastel marks that can really make a painting stand out, so well done!

Re: Curious Kitten

Thanks, Christel, Kay, fedetony, Chammi, Penny and Vivien for the nice comments.

As mentioned above, this pastel is based on one I did for a Christmas card. What I did for this painting was to to delete the red Christmas ornament on a photo copy and print the Kitten on charcoal paper then paint in the clear ball with a butterfly inside with pastel pencils.

I've attached a copy of the original painting for comparison.
