“Adrienne” (WIP)

Started a new portrait this past weekend. I’m trying a light background with overall warm temperature.. I think it works. But would appreciate thoughts and C&C 😊😊

This is really successful portrait, Michael. The light is just right and shows a sad/wistful expression. Handled with a light touch. Pastel?

Re: “Adrienne” (WIP)

The warm light is a good direction and working and I especially like your handling of her hair! The proportion changes you've made add to the downcast effect.

The blue cast at mid-neck could be lessened.

I like the drawing, the light, the edges - your color choices.. toss that all away and I think it has an emotional resonance that works.

Re: “Adrienne” (WIP)

Thank you so much, Bethany! Yes, this is pastel 😊

Thank you, Mary, Ken and Kevin!

I see what you mean, Ken. Thank you! I’ll adjust that area. 😊 I’m working on other adjustments too in order to bring more likeness to the model.. posting the changes soon. Hoping they’ll be improvements.. 😊

Re: “Adrienne” (WIP)

Very appealing portrait. Well done.

My only critique besides "The blue cast at mid-neck could be lessened" which I also agree with, is a very minor one. The light spot above the sitter's right eyebrow next to the darker shadow is pretty strong (the left side of the painting). My eye kept being drawn there. I don't think I would eliminate it if it were my painting, just tone it down a small amount.

Re: “Adrienne” (WIP)

Thank you, Ken, Carol, Atlee and Contumasious for your encouragement and suggestions! I had to remodel some in order to paint a better likeness of the model too. Im posting in the next frame. Hoping I’ve been truer to my model while retaining the correct emotion. I think the mood is less austere now... I’d appreciate your feedback 😊

Re: “Adrienne” (WIP)

This a more accurate tone, I think. I also corrected a “glaring” mistake! 😃

Re: “Adrienne” (WIP)

Trying my best to post a representation of the painting with regards to the accurate values and temperature.. I think both of these are what support the success of the painting.. oh well. Here goes “one more time”..
