Is it illustrative enough?

Ok .. here is another elf lady that I made ( I killed the previous one!). This is a test study like character portrait I made.
Now.. I want your opinion. Is it illustrative enough? My intention was to make her look a bit not so realistic.
Don't tell me please about the concept, there is no concept at all as first I want to figure out the style that my illustrations will have. I want them to be realistic but not that much and illustrative but not that much either ( not like cartoons anyway). When I'll figure out what will be the painting style then I'll add the fantasy elements and the concept. ( if there is any. I make these things in order to pass my time as I'm completely bored to finish a botanical painting that I'm having there on the table.. and it is looking at me with contempt.. )

P.S. The scanner did its own things again. The original looks a bit softer /smoother.

P.S 2 The own made by hardware store pigment blue granulates perfectly.

Re: Is it illustrative enough?

If your intention is to make her look NOT to realistic, I don't think you did it. Your painting is, as usual, excellent, but since I don't really understand what you're trying to do,,,,,,,,,. Perhaps not as much shading on the contours of her face? Maybe the eyes, nose, and mouth not so painterly defined?

Re: Is it illustrative enough?

I want to do something that looks more like illustration than realistic painting.
But as it seems there is not salvation!
The funny thing is that I refined further the details.
What if I used false colours, green hair and lets say purple eyes? Then it wouldn't look so realistic.

I'm not saying of course that this is the epitome of realism. But it doesn't look like an illustration either.
I want to try something different than my usual style. I don't see anything wrong on experimenting on different painting styles and I'm in the mood of doing so.

Re: Is it illustrative enough?

Both this painting and the other referenced are lovely. Though I'm not sure what you're looking for as "illustrative," I have a slight preference for the other. Perhaps its "fantastical" elements help me understand better that it is not an attempt at realism.

This one, by contrast, contains more realistic elements than your elf, so I'm more inclined to think "portrait."

I don't know if that helps, but I hope it does.

Cheers!
Frank

Re: Is it illustrative enough?

She is missing the pointy ears. I can add one! ( if the paper doesn't explode!! )
Bah.. I'll make another one this time with the fantasy elements. The same face but more things happening on the background.
Thanks for the suggestion/advice...

Embellished with all and everything.
Pointy ears, jewelery, flowers, sparkles and splashes.
I would appreciate the most your opinion.

Re: Is it illustrative enough?

The second one is much more fantasy-like. Blue hair would be nice, too.
