'Round the Campfire ~ March

Hello everyone! Happy March! For many, it feels like spring is nearly upon us. I hope that's true here this year. I can't help but remember a few years ago when things were feeling like spring, but then we got a foot of snow on May 5th. Yikes...I hope that's not the case this year. We're all ready for warmer temperatures and lovely weather.

I've got fresh chocolate cake, coffee, and cocoa. Come and get it.

Jenna, can't believe it is March! I'm all for the cake and coffee, thanks.
We had company the last few days. The wife is an artist, too, and the husband worked with Gene so we had a great time. We even went sketching. Went to baseball and that was fun, too.

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ March

Spring? Our biggest storm of the season is upon us. We have had a little snow here twice and may get more tomorrow. Last night the storm moved in with 45 mph winds and heavy rain. Supposed to last through Saturday. Highway is closed about 20 miles up the hill with white-out conditions. Highway Patrol is staying to stay home until Sunday.

So, that's another excuse to stay home and paint. Working on two 10 x 10" paintings. I'll probably finish one or both tonight or tomorrow. Then I'm going to take on a windblown Egret.

Been able to use my recent surgical procedure to avoid the politics of the city taking over the art walk, etc.. Glad to avoid that even though I hate to see the art walk program floundering. City took it over but the City Counsel hasn't officially allocated any funds for it. The first one was supposed to be April 6 which just isn't going to happen. Maybe they will get something going in May.

Well, thanks for the cake and coffee, Jenna. A good way to start the month!

Create!!

Hi Jo. It sounds like you had a great time with your company. Your sketch is more than just a sketch. It's really a beautiful work of art with your skilled line work and use of colors. Such a great scene and a good composition. Beautifully done!

Hi Rick. That sounds like miserable weather. March can be such a brute of a month when it comes to weather. I hope you see sunshine again soon. I agree with you - I love using poor weather as a reason to create art. Glad you like the cake and coffee.

Hello to everyone else! Not much is new around here. We've had wonderful weather the last week or so - in the 40s and even 50s each day, and the snow is disappearing fast. I'd be foolish to think it's actually spring, but it is, at least, closer to spring. Have a great day, everyone!

Happy March everyone! Still in the 30s at night here but temps going back up with today's being 70 thru tomorrow and Sunday 81 is forecast...things are budding out and we always have a freeze before Easter.

Hi Jenna, Jo, and Rick! I hope you weather the storm okay, Rick!

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ March

I got out with the Bastrop Sketchers today. We went to Elgin, Texas, to the Owl Wine Bar and Vintage Home Goods. It was a great store. It has a bar made for an old Western, sorry I don't remember the name. Anyway, the movie people must have kept the old looking bar stools as it was left with stools from a 50s diner. : ) so it sort of fits here sans the stools. That is an old meat grinder on the end of the bar. The mirrors are about 12 feet tall and just leaning on the wall.

Hope all y'all are doing well.

What a neat experience in Elgin, Jo, and love your sketch of the place.
We leave today with temps in the 70s for NM again, back on Sunday.

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ March

Hi everyone. It's been a snowy/windy week for me. Spring is no where in sight I'm afraid.

Just traveling on the road home, 5 miles. Always good to have a 4-wheel drive, my car would have got hung up in a few different spots.

A few of our horses. Pistol is always the first to come up & greet you, Jazz & Quill in behind.

Sorry, both are cell phone shots.

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ March

Sheila, wonderful photos. They remind me of when I grew up in Wyoming. Cold!

Fun sketch, Jo. Places like that are so much fun.

Expecting rain here most of next week. (We need it). Getting some painting done in the studio and looking forward to getting outside to paint in a few weeks. Have 3 pieces going into a small local show on Tuesday. Having fun.

Spring is not far way.

Jo, I'll definitely find some Hatch chiles to eat
Loving your horse photos Sheila and the snowy icy conditions are Brrrrr!
Rick, you sound pretty busy!

Temps in the 60s here in Alto, NM, sunny with little wind. I've shopped most of the day but will soon begin one of the images on Miniatures forum for that monthly challenge. I did get some good photos today of southwest items. Is there a host for April as I've not checked that thread lately here.

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ March

Hi everyone. Just poking the fire and bringing fresh coffee to the campfire.

Hi Kay. I hope you had fun in NM! Sounds like warm weather for you. We're seeing 40s most every day, so I can't complain. And, to answer your question, I am hosting the Monthly Challenge for April. I believe the next available month is in June, if you're interested.

Hi Jo. What a great sketch of that bar and store! It sounds like a great atmosphere and a lot of fun. Glad you enjoyed yourself there. It's always a treat to see your artwork.

Hi Sheila. Great photos! Looks like your winter is still hanging around yet, too. Same here. Snow everywhere! I hope we all get a nice, warm, mellow spring soon. Your horses are really beautiful! I like their names...especially Quill!

Hi Rick. I hope you've gotten that needed rain, but I also hope you see dry weather soon so you can get back outside to paint.

Hello to all the rest around here. Not too much new with me. Been working some in my studio making sculptures, but it's hard to get excited about things when I'm in a winter rut.

Have a great day, and be creative!

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ March

Hi, Jenna! Hope you get some warm weather soon. Thanks for poking the fire. We had 87 degrees on Saturday for baseball. Back to the normal 60s now. We had folks in shorts and t-shirts on Saturday and hoodies on Sunday. Very cold wind at 62 ... brr. Ha.

Everyone else, hi and hope you are able to be artsy and having fun.

Oh, Gene and I went bowling! Yes, bowling. Hadn't been in 50 years or so. We bowled a 290! Well, adding up 2 games and 2 players. Heh, heh. At least we neither one fell down. I had one strike and Gene had three I think. Woopieeee!
