Osprey Fishing

Using the same basic scene, you can change the story that the painting tells. As well as practicing landscapes, wildlife, Aviation and 'sport'.

Nice work Jim. They used to be rare but thankfully they are breeding well now in Scotland.

Re: Osprey Fishing

Wonderful composition and painting, Jim.

Love the detail in the osprey, but when we finish looking at him, the green branches point our eyes to the castle, or is it rocks, in the mist farther back in the painting.

well done.

Oh, no ship and no airplane
That is a beautiful painting of a beautiful landscape and it looks very Scottish.
The bird and the trees are done bold and confident.

Thank you Esther. I do paint other things. But I specialise in Marine, especially Ships. Here is another Osprey, A3 size but in Acrylic.

Re: Osprey Fishing

This is a great painting. Only thing that struck me though was that I think it need more darks on the closer shore down near waterline At the bottom of or below trees and/or in the trees. The few darks on the bird are not enough in my thinking to give a full range of values in the painting. That near shore on left is too close for much Atmosphere to dull the darks. I would graduate the values to get lighter with distance. You could have used that effect of lighter values with distance on the moutains on the right also. I could be totally wrong though and there are people on here who know a lot more about it than me. This is realism and I throw my paint at the paper so there is that. That's just my 2 cents.

Re: Osprey Fishing

I think you are wrong, but then I might be wrong. However I am perfectly satisfied with the painting as it is. Painted purely for pleasure, with no intention of it being hung. The page is turned, and I'm almost finished the next painting.
Anyway thanks for commenting.

This is certainly "hooked" me into the subject. Good to see your talents used in a variety of ways for us to enjoy.
