Path into the Fog

This is an 8x8 pastel on sanded paper. I'm going to put a little of the rust color into the first bush on the left so that the front bush doesn't stand out quite so much. Any suggestions or observations will be appreciated.

Re: Path into the Fog

Nice presentation of a foggy day. I especially like the tree in the upper right, you have subdued the details and color just enough to create nice depth in the painting. Gary

Thanks Gary. I did have to restrain myself quite a bit since the depth was really what I wanted to portray.

Re: Path into the Fog

this is great as is, but I see what you mean. I do some see some rust in the back middle bush, and I like that. Helps tie things together. Nice depth and feel overall.

Nice atmosphere! Adding the rust will help harmonize and increase the depth.

Re: Path into the Fog

I agree about adding just a tad (start with just a tad and see how it goes - easier to add a little bit at a time, then trying to take away). Beautiful pastel work, like this piece a lot

Beautiful painting Patricia, the fog colour is perfect, and the overall colours are nicely subtle.

Skyenorth, thanks for your kind compliments.

CaliAnn, I like that "just a tad."

Re: Path into the Fog

Is the ground sloped? It feels a bit like it is.
The front clump seems straight up, but the other main clumps seem slightly slanting..
Even is growing on a slope plants usually , not always though, grow fairly straight upward.

Love the colors & the effects are so nice, my eyes notice angles & slanting things.. bit of an OCD thing I guess.. I always notice crooked photos on walls..

The ground is sloped, but I see what you mean, especially with that center bush. Thanks for catching that, I never would have seen it myself. Well, maybe if I put it away for about 5 years and looked at it with fresh eyes.
