A Girl's Charcoal Portrait In Progress

My charcoal portrait of a girl is in progress. I showed how to render it using a brush with charcoal powder. Let me know what you think.

Thanks a lot! I also love charcoal portrait and using a brush to render is a challenge. Imagine applying dry charcoal powder with a brush needs a lot of practice to create a smooth effect.

Re: A Girl's Charcoal Portrait In Progress

We used charcoal dust with sable brushes building up drawings on mylar back in my illustration college coursework. Really is interesting to work with. I can see why you enjoy it.

If I had one suggestion, but you're probably getting there...a bit more dominant darker presence of the outer iris ring around the eye...and a little more shading suggesting the curvature of the ball of the eye going back into the socket of the eye, near the tear duct gland. Minor things, but this portrait draws attention to the eyes...

Nice to see...
