This is an exercise I did inspired by Charles Warren Eaton's Sunset Pines
, circa 1910.
I used Mi-Teintes colored paper, smooth side, cut down from larger sheets so it's approximately 11x14". This was my first time using the paper and I really have no issue with it, aside from it being a little lighter in weight than I like. But both Mungyos and Senns went on and blended easily.
As always when I have a go with Tonalism, I find it very challenging to go as dark as these artists do, with details shrouded in the canvas. I focused instead on the depth of the scene and the direction of the light.
I photographed this on an overcast day here, it's slightly brighter than this. All comments appreciated. Thanks for looking!
