Sneaking a dance

This is my latest. I have had this in my mind for a long time as something I wanted to do. An expression that girls are very complex creatures. I named it "Sneaking a Dance". It's 10 by 7.5 on Fabriano Artistico Hot Pressed 140 watercolor paper. Faber-Castell polychromos except the background which I used Prismacolor black because it is very creamy. My biggest issues in picking the color for the shoes. I settled on the off white because of the lovely contrast with the black b background. I used reference photos from flickr.

I absolutely love this. Who would've thought of ballet in tennis shoes? I like the contrast of the subject matter with the black background.

I wanted the contrast of the black and white, it's eye appealing with a hint of color. I have thought of doing "something" like this for about 2 years and sort of mulled it over in my head like I do a lot of my stuff.. It's a simple message of the complexity of youth ..the love for both the arts and play; of seriousness and play, of kids that are not sure what they love most.. it's many things.

I like the dirty shoes and the pink ribbon tied up in knots and not going through all the grommets. The carelessness of youth and also maybe the aspirations. The shoes look kind of old, maybe old favourites, or maybe all she has. All kinds of stories could come out of work. Well done.
