Thanks again Chrystel... I wish the background had turned out better, but happy with the wolf that I spent all that time on..even in a 'mini' ... still hate those backgrounds.

Re: Chernobyl Wolf Xpost Colored Pencil

This is actually a series of miniature wolves, the rest being 2.5 " X 3.5" all of which I either never finished or finished to a point and then ruined trying to improve them... this time I backed up and tried a larger one. Why, no idea. I thought the miniature art forum was interesting and wanted to see if I could do anything that small in colored pencil. Why? Not entirely sure but ... I messed up my finger .. and win or loose, it was kind of fun to finish a piece in a day or so rather than spend forty or fifty hours on something for once....

Re: Chernobyl Wolf Xpost Colored Pencil

That is a fierce looking face!

I think the background is good. It looks like a forest area that a wolf would be in.

We used to go on wolf howls when I was younger, we'd "talk" to the wolves and they'd talk back. They're very social animals.

Did you watch that PBS show on Chernobyl and the wildlife there? It was so interesting. I'm amazed at how well some of them are doing considering.

Re: Chernobyl Wolf Xpost Colored Pencil

Thanks for your comments Virginia!

I 'popped him' a bit more... he doesn't really look this bright, quite... but to get him to look nearly how the scanner is picking him up....

I took Neon Yellow , Prismacolor, and carved out the very brightest parts of his eyes... also added to any yellow toned highlights... used the Chartreuse, hot green... to make the light parts in the woods and trees behind twinkle brighter, also a Prismacolor. Then I took the Sakura Gelly Roll pen and hit teh highlights of his teeth one more time... then used the Neocolor II wax pastel, looks like a crayon.. sharpened to a tiny point and went over any highlights that may have been lost. Also used the Stabilo Black to dot head... darken chin and any other a areas that needed darkened. Thanks for looking.

Now if I put him in a glass frame, he should show through it without looking flat or drab. If I could afford museum glass, wouldn't have to brighten him quite so much.

I love chartreuse. How clever you are to adapt it for being behind glass! I would never have thought of that.

Re: Chernobyl Wolf Xpost Colored Pencil

I'm just tired of watching my colored pencil pieces fade away under glass ... plus if I send it to someone.. I don't want them disappointed if they put it under glass and it fades away. That's one annoying thing about colored pencil and why my work is so hot and coloreful... shrug?

Re: Chernobyl Wolf Xpost Colored Pencil

Final Adjustments: top of skull was too small, darkened background and fur coat using Derwent Inktense Bark, plus this and that here and there.. Fur on both sides of face wasn't 'wolf like' enough... not wide enough, added tufts
