Re: *** DAILY WASH - January 2nd - 2018 ***

Hello JJ and all who follow in the tooth of January.

Yup, cooler today. The storms have bypassed us after suffocating humidity. Cats happy and have arisen from their sleeping spots, after all it's nearly dinner time. Roger mowed the easy lawns I did t brush cut the other difficult one because I couldn't be bothered.

Warm moist nights are taking their toll. A lot of sightings of funnelwebs. Not the Sydney one but the other kind. All along the east coast in the mountains. Even the forgotten isle of Tasmania. Venomous but never recorded to have killed.

This is a male funnelweb. The girls have bigger bellies. NOT my photo and NOT in my house. Have insect screens and good doors. A friend showed it when he found he was sharing his bedroom with it.

Basic thing is big black ugly crawling spider, get rid of it. Preferably not by stomping. This one was hurled from his back deck, back into the jungle, as the bush is becoming with all this lovely rain.

to all following

Edit, Rick

Annie! what a shock to see a giant spider I am scared of spiders, but am usually very brave It runs in the family - we once went on holiday with my older sister Jean and she was in the next room. We woke next morning to find she hadn't slept a wink, had pushed her bed into a corner and was staring at a spider in the opposite corner

Good morning all, back to normal again after the holidays. I think I may be getting a sore throat, I hope not We have been around so many people the last week I wouldn't be surprised.

I woke from another " lost" dream

OMG I wish I hadn't looked at that spider before bed........

I won't show John, he said he has been dreaming lately that he could sing......might spoil it for him

Rain, glorious rain! today, wetting stuff that does the garden good.
I even biked in it - 10 km! fast too (well, for me). Needed LOTS to eat and a nana nap afterwards lol

Work next two days, better go and get drawing things together.

Happy New Year everyone.

Re: *** DAILY WASH -Tuesday January 2nd - 2018 ***

Good Morning all,
It is almost 4:30 a.m. here in frigid and dark Oakwood. Our weatherman just reported that we broke the record low temp for this date which was establish 120 years ago. Brrrrrr! Our furnace (only a couple of years old) seems to be having a problem getting the house up to the temp Larry set on the thermostat. The air coming from the vents is warm, but not as warm as it should be. It is getting chilly already. He'll call the company that installed the unit as soon as it is reasonable and try to get a technician over to fix it. These cold temps are sticking around until next weekend, so we need a working furnace.

Poor Casey spent his birthday coughing and not feeling good. His Mom is taking him to the doctor today.

Annie, Scary spider. I'm not very brave around spiders, no matter what size they are. I hope you don't get too much bad weather from that storm.

to JJ, Lulu, Doug, Rick, and Geoff and all who are on their way.

SYL,

Sylvia

Annie it certainly looks breezy there....

https://earth.nullschool.net/#curren....72,-22.39,745

At the moment the Irish Weather people ( we miss Caryl) are naming the storms here, last week it was Dylan.....a friend on one of the caravanning forums asked 'when will Dylan be here?'.........to which,my answer was "The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind".......which got the retort "very droll"!

Water in pool back to a reasonable 29C, quite swimmable today.

Darla, read you comments at the end of the Wash yesterday, you are obviously 'torn' as all good family should be.....my Grandma always used the expression" God found he couldn't do everything,so he made Mothers" So best of luck with Larry and yourself.

Need to go to Middlesbrough later,my one and only paternal cousin, who had open heart surgery last month had a fall in her home on New Years Eve, she is disabled and gets around her home using crutches. She fell in her bathroom, alone, and lay there for 5 hours before a neighbour raised the alarm....she is in hospital but has contracted pneumonia so is on oxygen.

Good day all,

It's warming up here at 12 F. Omaha had a record low of -32 F. -45 in N. Dakota.
Supposed to be very cold this weekend. Not sure we'll notice.

I've never been afraid of spiders, but some people give me the chills.

Sylvia, sure hope you can get your furnace fixed today.

Am starting a drawing of Linda's longhorns. It may take me several days.
Bill

Annie that spider only has 7 legs too. Hmmmmm - so they loose a leg and come into the house.. Bit of a mystery here to uncover.

We had some rain not a lot but it is indeed cooler tonight. Some places took a real bashing, new showed buildings being blown about like cardboard.

Yes Geoff I do miss Caryl.

I hope you get your heating unit sorted out Sylvia..

Linda

Happy drawing Bill

I am off to bed.

Bill I cant wait to see your longhorns! Gives me something to look forward to, I forgot I had pics of them!

I dont mind most spiders. I am quite fond of the big hairy tarantulas. We used to have one that lived peacefully on the corner of our front porch for years. Spiders eat a lot of the more annoying insects.

I am so glad I set up so many bird feeders. The birds are very active, I know the food and water helps them in our cold weather. They repay me by just being around, they are always a thrill.

Re: *** DAILY WASH -Tuesday January 2nd - 2018 ***

Temp is still dropping outside, -20F/-30C actual temp outside, down to 61F in the house and still dropping. The furnace is running, but it isn't staying on long enough to keep the temp up. Larry talked to the company president who said they are swamped with calls. They are scheduling them all and he'll call back to let us know when they'll be here. In the meantime, I have a nice little space heater going in my studio/office room which is keeping it cozy. Too small to warm up the bigger living room though.

Thanks for the warm wishes, they help psychologically, if not physically.

to all again,

Sylvia
