What are your hopes for 2018

Happy New Year!.

I wondered what is your biggest hope for 2018.

For me, it's selling my house.

I have had my property on the market now for 5 years. Yes, 5 years!!! At this point, I expect your wondering whats wrong with the place. Is she a hoarder? There is nothing wrong with my place, it's fabulous. But, it is the last house at the top of a Mountain and people just cannot be bothered to make that climb at the end of a long day, especially with kids.

Viewings have been stressful to the extent that I have had to remove myself from the house when people come to look round. I can't bear it anymore. They knock on the walls, ask about the cracks in the walls (Hello! we have earthquakes here) They nosey around, and I have had soo many time wasters, you know, the sort that spend Sunday afternoons looking at houses they can't afford with sandwiches in their car.

So, as an eternal optimist I am asking the Universe to please please please let me sell my house this year.

Re: What are your hopes for 2018

Not really art related, but I would like to see humanity become less judgmental and fault finding of others.

Sorry to hear about your not being able to sell your house. I am sure you have heard all this before so feel free to ignore everything below.

I have been in your shoes more times than I liked. Unfortunately the "market value" of your home is what someone is willing to pay. If you ask price X and there are no buyers in the area willing to pay that, you won't ever sell your home. The hard reality is you must drop the price until someone bites. If you don't HAVE to sell, then you can wait for the market to turn, or for that one person to finally show up who thinks the price is worth what they are getting. But it might never happen.

We moved where we are now, 5 years ago during a dramatic real estate slump. Homes that would cost $700,000 to build were just sitting there at $250,000. Over 30% of the homes for sale were foreclosures. The area we moved from was also depressed. Our old home would have cost someone $500,000+ to build it. We had it priced at $250,000 and no takers for several YEARS. We decided to move to the new location without selling the old house, renting it out instead. The market finally started to turn in both locations and we were able to sell it for close to $250,000 at a significant loss. The market value for that home two years after we sold it was $380,000. On the plus side, we ended up getting a replacement home 5 years ago that is now worth $400,000 more than we paid for it, so it all worked out in the end - IF we decide to sell before the next big real estate bust. It was a big risk and difficult making two mortgages, plus it could have gone the other way in a heartbeat.

I hope to see my life get back to normal or failing that I hope that I can settle into the "new normal". I'd really like to paint again.

World peace.

My biggest personal hope for 2018 is to retire happily at the end of it!

Re: What are your hopes for 2018

That the Dems win a majority of seats in the House during the midterms and impeachment proceedings begin. Not that I think he’ll really be out of there before his 4 year term, but a girl can dream...

Personally though, I hope I survive my upcoming layoff ($$$) but still, and no matter what, I’m going to visit New Mexico again. We’re scoping out neighborhoods, meeting with realtors...laying future plans.

It will be a race to see who gets out of the House first...Trump, or me.

Thanks for sharing. I have reduced my property substantially with no luck. It is not like we have to move it is more that we would like to. My house is large but my garden is small which is not what you want when you live in Costa Rica. I would like to start a large vegetable garden and have more room for my dogs to run around. Plus I have always wanted a goat or two.

Today is the first full day where I got to paint in over 2 years! The old house is sold, and the new one is almost finished, we've moved, and my art room is just about back together, but I still caught s**t over "just painting" today. It was an upbeat day until that happen.

I wish for a non-confrontational day painting. In fact many n-c days this year and for many years to come.

My hopes to get to NM, or my hopes for impeachment?

Either way...
thank you, and I hope the same for your hopes.

I hope that comes true for you.

Anyway, New Year's Day is a holiday. Everyone should be allowed to spend at least a few hours on a holiday as they see fit. We all need time to recharge the psychological batteries by doing what gives us contentment.

Re: What are your hopes for 2018

Since I work as an auxiliary on call for office support and get to work for many different bosses, I hope for the year ahead to not to have to deal with any nasty bosses...as I can't retire for another 2 1/2 years. I'm in my sixties and just wish I did not have to deal with this type of stress.
