Two Caseins - Michigan

My 92 year old Mother and both my brothers live in Michigan. On frequent visits home we would visit the Greenwood Cemetery in Vernon to see the burial sight of my Mother's grandmother who she dearly loved and her grandfather. I have long wondered who the other folks were. A bit of genealogy research informed me that many members of my family are there, including my great-great-great grandparents from the pre Civil War Days. The genealogy research has inspired me to do a few recent sketches on Michigan.

Looks good Gary. Nice composition and I like how
you handled the trees and the cast shadows.
Well done!

These are beautiful, Gary. The colors and perspective in the first one really create a wonderful and inviting sense of depth. The B&W one is lovely too - it has a dated feel that evokes memories.

I too have roots in Michigan. My family is Dutch and settled in the Grand Rapids area at the turn of the last century.

Re: Two Caseins - Michigan

Thanks Mary. I remember there is a Dutch presence near Grand Rapids. I visited the Tulip Festival in Holland, Michigan, a couple of times in the 1970's. I will have to check and see if they still hold it. Gary

Those paintings are beautiful: masterful use of the casein medium.

Gary, these are wonderful examples of casein. I think you said that you had just started with casein but your work says that you've been painting with it for a long time!

Re: Two Caseins - Michigan

Thanks AbyA. I started Caseins about a year ago but then put them down for a while. Gary
