Re: Latest Portraits

Oh my gosh these are incredible! Each one seems to describe the personality of the individual as much as the physical characteristics and that's something that I imagine is hard to achieve. The second one of the woman in the hat really touched me. She seems to have an inner strength and a story to tell!

Re: Latest Portraits

Thanks so much Donna. The middle portrait is of my mother at 90. She is an artist and very strong indeed. The other two were models in life drawing. I did a life drawing charcoal sketch of each and then decided to do a pastel portrait. I am posting because I am applying as a member of the Degas Pastel Society and need to pick three works. I decided to do all portraits but not sure which ones to submit. Thought I'd see the reactions to these and decide. All are on Colorfix and 18x24.

Re: Latest Portraits

My reaction? Go for it with these two wonderful portraits. Each is special in its own way. Your mother's portrait is very strong on its own, but the complimentary colors add something extra special. Good luck to you.

Re: Latest Portraits

Each of these is so different from the others and you captured a strength in each individual personality. I hope you enter all of them!

They are all wonderful. Mom is my favorite. I don’t think there should be any questions about membership based on these portraits. Pam

Re: Latest Portraits

Thanks for the vote of confidence Karen, Pam, Rebecca and Frances. Thanks for stopping by Ken, I have missed studying your portraits on WC. I think I will start bringing pastels to life drawing and try some like I have seen you do. Thus far, I have only used charcoal and conte as I feel I won't get very far with a full palette of color.

Re: Latest Portraits

Wow. These are great, especially the tattooed woman. You captured the tattoos so well, got the particular way they look under the skin rather than floating on the skin - it's fantastic. All three are beautiful.

Thanks all and I suppose Mom's painting is the winner. Deanna, I love!!!!! your painting on the Portrait forum. Thanks all for looking in and helping me decide what to submit to Degas Pastel.
