Peonies- wip

MY IMAGE(S):

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: Peonies- wip
Year Created:
Medium: Oil
Surface: Board
Dimension: 9x12
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
First impressions please- I am trying to branch into some still lifes after being in a landscape rut.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
Color harmony is feeling off for me. There are warmer tones in upcoming petals that Iím hoping will give some balance.

Re: Peonies- wip

Looks like you have made a good start there.
Peonies in the garden are one of my favourite flowers.
Keen to see how this develops
Regards
Andrew

I was so looking forward your first post. From reading your critiques I knew you would not disappoint. This is off to a really good start I can't wait to watch the progression.

Re: Peonies- wip

Looks good so far, D. The image is resting on its side but that's been solved further down the page. Looking forward to seeing the final article.

Re: Peonies- wip

Updated image...warmed up the petals and finished work on the lower flower. Upper flower is just getting blocked in.

Hopefully this one shows right side up for everyone.

I love everything about this, right down to the texture in the Gesso.

Re: Peonies- wip

Thank you is much Tom. Iím concerned the dark petals are too dark and too brown. Iím hoping the other flower will balance it out.

Re: Peonies- wip

Perhaps. I donít think Iíve actually ever done a glaze before, and Iím not sure how to do one effectively. I also think there is too much value change in the lighter petals. Thereís always something! Itís so hard to look at a painting and say, okay! Itís time to stop messing with it! At least, that seems to be my problem. I could tweak the same one for decades!

The only way I can stop fussing with a painting is to start another.
