Prince Rupert Harbour

Last painting of 2017. Northwest Coast BC last summer. Looking past all the docked boats to the islands on the other side of the harbour. Its usually misty and raining in Prince Rupert. The islands and the clouds seem to merge.
I tried to sketch this scene from my hotel room but the moving water currents and fog were hard to keep up with - they were constantly changing. However, I did end up using one sketch as a reference that was a conglomeration of different moments in time. I also took photos. The currents on the water were patterns left by the wake of boat traffic. 14"x 27.5" on hardboard. C & C's welcome.

Re: Prince Rupert Harbour

This is gorgeous, Frances! You definitely caught the feeling of the rainy, misty sky affecting both land and water. The colors all mingle and merge and create such a believable harmony.

A moment in time, captured quite nicely, I'd say!

I replied over on Landscapes but forgot to ask what surface you used and if you did a watercolor under painting.

Re: Prince Rupert Harbour

Thank you Pam and Karen!
Hi Patricia. I used gessoed hardboard, as usual, with a very watery acrylic underpainting.
All the Best for the New Year everyone!
