Re: Pencil Portrait

Very nice work - well done.

Advice I was given in this forum - look at getting the full range of values in portraits. For instance the subjects face is framed by a head of hair, where it meets the line of the face and moving out could be quite dark, with the tone progressively getting lighter as you move away towards the body of hair.

If you look at my drawing of Venetian Girl - in this forum - you can see that I have attempted to do that on the girls right side, so the face is in contrast with the shadowed hair. I have also attempted it to a lesser extent on the left of the subject to indicate the modelling of the body of hair and also to frame the face a bit.

I am no expert at this so mess about on a photocopy of the drawing you have done and see what works.

Regards,
Ian.

Re: Pencil Portrait

Good human drawing! My thought for you is about her nose, almost never, all light being equal (top, 3/4) will the nose be lighter than the facial planes behind it. Why ? The nose comes forward in space and as things come forward, one of the properties they acquire is to gradually darken ( they also get more detail, etc and saturation in color works).. It's one of the reasons why we easily see highlights on the nose ( not evident here) - typically on the Lower portion of the nose ( 'ball') - near the domes and alar cartilage..

And, that dark dot near /on her Glabella seems too dark unless it's make-up ( dark shapes also receive light..

Re: Pencil Portrait

Great comments already! Aside from a bit of finishing on the face, I liked the very first image. You may be fine with losing some of the outline on teeth- there is a very small patch at the center of her upper lip to integrate a bit?
