anyone else getting bad site pop ups here?

Every once in a while, I am here and a porn site pops up.
Not anywhere else on the internet and always here in the business forum.
It's not "my history" to view those kinds of sites.

Re: anyone else getting porn site pop ups here?

Yesterday when I was here I was getting redirected to weird sites when I opened a new browser window. I thought I caught a virus on my computer.

Hmm, I just checked, I was trying to access an url from the "Warning To All Artists" thread and it seems that the url in the first post is misspelled and that's why I'm getting weird sites if try go there by copying and pasting the url.

Robin you should do a virus scan on your computer, it might have caught something.

Yes, Porn site. Happened to me for the first time last June while I was in HCMC, Vietnam. I assumed that my tablet had been corrupted since I was using hotel wifi. However, repeated scans of my tablet found nothing suspicious. When I returned to the USA I visited this forum using my desktop. Same problem.....porn site.

The problem only exists on the General Art Business forum. No other WC forums and no other forums/websites I regularly visit.

About 4+ weeks ago I contacted the WC IT link. Never got a reply! Perhaps they do not care.

As with Robin Z the issue is intermittent. It did happen again today when I opened the Robin Z post.

Re: anyone else getting porn site pop ups here?

There seems to be no one maintaining this site whatsoever. Just look at the forum titles: "Best Posts of 2010." It is for this reason that I will never buy anything that F+C Media sells. Magazines, books, DVDs, whatever. They don't care about us. At all. And they make it plain on this site every single day.

That said, the porn redirect is an adware thing. It comes from installs where you don't notice bundled adware. Usually as you go through an install for software, you get a bunch of dialog boxes, and often they will have a small box checked inside them for something or other, like "Put shortcut on desktop." But other times they will have one that says "Install Nameless Jerk Monetized Porno Redirect Software" or the equivalent. You can uninstall this adware. Do a search for the "name of porn site redirect removal". You can use Malwarebytes or similar to find it also.

This won't uninstall the adware but it shows you how to make your browser block the redirects:

Scroll down to other thread titles on this same forum..
pop ups, porn, etc there are posts that may help to stop or block it..it is very random and some never had it happen...

Basically use add ons - ad blockers , clear any odd cookies in your bowser list
Once you get the pop up you need to find it and fully clean it off your system, or you will see it again.

Why is it only here, on the WC Business forum, that I get this?

Nowhere else.

Re: anyone else getting bad site pop ups here?

I'm afraid the site was hacked some months ago and some members got infected with the popup. There is a thread with tips for eliminating the problem.

I seem to have missed it and haven't seen it, I use Chrome and Adblock Plus on Windows 10. And the Dolphin browser on my old iPad 2.
