Paintings order in bulk?

Hi all,
I've come here today with a weird question. Wondering if anyone has ever received requests for shipping paintings in bulk? Like 20 paintings for the same artwork which you have created. Does such order make sense or sound legit? Many thanks.

Re: Paintings order in bulk?

Twenty originals of the same composition? Twenty prints?

Did the request come is more or less correct grammar? How was payment discussed and promised?

Sling paint,
Virgil

Re: Paintings order in bulk?

It could be possible they want to sell in different stores, or they like it so much they think very similar works will all sell.. But there is a loss as none would be classified as the "original" work..

But I would dig in to more details, if this buyer is not clearly stating who they are, like what & how much money & payment method proposed..
Who they work for, where located, just so you can do a web search and check it out for legit or spammy..

Thanks. The grammar is correct. They did not provide any such info. An address in Europe is given though and I get a feeling something's not right. Their name has a "TM" at the top. weird.

Just creating the idea of painting the same thing over so many times is kind of odd.

If their name has a TM on it, you can look it up at the USPTO database of trademarks. Or you can just google it. Or take a phrase from their email, put quotes around it, and google that.

A hotel chain might want something like this. An artist I admire got a commission from a Japanese hotel to paint a bunch of pretty much the same large abstract painting for their hotels.

Maybe they do not understand the concept of original art.

I have known artists who have gotten large orders for paintings of a certain type: same color and so on, but all the paintings placed side by side would be different. Generally, they would be abstracts.

I knew an artist (I would usually just refer to him as an interior designer) who got an order from a restaurant chain, where they wanted all the work on the walls to be uniform, who made his artwork out of polyurethane foam, and so could use stencils to cut the pieces, glue them, and then cover them in a kind of spackle and paint. They all looked exactly the same.

Yes it does have TM on it. Its an international order. I've never done an international order before.

Re: Paintings order in bulk?

Google the buyer's name and see if that tells you anything. You can do the same with the adress.
