Young Tarzan's Pal

This was an amalgamation of Prisma color pencils and acrylics (mostly Mars black for the deep, dark areas). It was done on a piece of art board at 16 x 24.....It has an unfinished look but that wasn't planned...I just got disinterested. But I love me some gorillas so I kept the thing instead of tossing it in the bin.

He was raised by the "great apes"....I read all the books. The movies had him with a chimp because it was easier to do and cuter. But in the old movies he was an adult.

Me too.....Used to see all the old films on television. Then, about the age of eleven, I began reading the books (of which there are many) and just about everything else by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Interesting and powerful. It looks washed out but almost as if that overexposed look was intentional. Great rendering of the gorilla!

Thanks!!! My intention was to give up before I finished as it wasn't turning out the way I wanted it.

But there was something about it...maybe the way the gorilla looked like a silverback with the unfinished area on him....that made me save it. It is what it is....

Re: Young Tarzan's Pal

Mmmm. Now that is a very nice looking Tarzan. Would swing through the trees with him any time!!

I like the 'unfinished' look. Excellent.
