Geralt and the Wraith
Acrylic on canvas panel 11x14 inches.

This is my best of 2017 because this was the first time my son asked me to create an artwork for him. We emailed back and forth on the design and now it is framed and hangs up in his house.

X-wing, acrylic on cardboard box, 7.5 x 7.5 inches.

This was in response to the technology challenge in August. I painted it for my son with his favourite Star Wars ship.

Re: Fantasy and Sci-Fi Best of 2017

I originally wanted to post the most popular image, the Lifeforce one with the space girl and all, but that was done a couple of years ago and the rules state that it HAS to have been done in 2017 and have been posted on the Fantasy, Science Fiction sub forum.

OK, so I'm reposting my CASSANDRA, THE DARK ANGEL (and the photo of the model I used for the face). It got a huge response so I'll go with the crowd.
And here's a bit of the explanation:

Charcoal pencils on thick sketch paper. 18 x 24.

Re: Fantasy and Sci-Fi Best of 2017

I think my best piece of art done this year was this dragon painting; oils on canvas, four feet by three feet. Best, because it was a huge challenge to me to paint on such a big canvas - I usually paint on something about an eighth of that size - and because I really had to work hard on the anatomy to make the dragons look like something real that could fly, rather than the heavily armoured behemoths more commonly seen in commercial fantasy art. And yellow's a bugger of a colour to get right!

A3 Canson illustration paper, mixed media (a little bit of everything : acrylic inks and markers and....well, other markers, too. And some other stuff I probably forgot I used.)

I think it may be the best one mainly because of how challenging it was ! For starters, it's not exactly a subject with plenty of reference photos lying around However, I think I was able to overcome my laziness/unwillingness to draw something a bit different way.
