Stitch in Time December 2017

Did I miss something here???? Couldn't fine a tread for December. If I started a second one please take this one out.

I know I pretty much missed November. First with some illnesses and deaths in the family the first part of the month and then Jarrod and Alyssa here for the Thanksgiving holiday. Also I was sewing so I have a bunch of dresses ready and hopefully it will work out to get some of them sold before Christmas.

I am not really doing much this year for Christmas to the house. Didn't last year either. Pat will be gone for the next two weeks to Sacramento to see the lawyer and get some court stuff settled he hopes. Things have dragged on too long and he wants to see if it can be finished up. He learned last night that he will be in charge of the night crews at work so his schedule is all screwed up for the rest of the month.

Me, I have good days and bad. The pain clinic cut back my percocet to 3 a day because the government is making everyone cut back. All muscle relaxers and opium based products. I am doing fine with the cut back as I had been cutting back myself. I have to get an eye exam soon as my license to drive is about up. The doctor only did 6 months this last time so I have to go this month. Boo! Hopefully I will get the paperwork in the next couple of days so I can get it to the doctor and an appointment to fill it all out. What a pain. I always worry that the doctor will say no and I won't be able to drive at all any more. That would not work out at all for me. I only drive about 2 miles down the road to the doctor or grocery store and that is only about once a week so fingers crossed it will all work out.

Here is one of the new dressed I made.
/

Hope everyone is doing well.
Hugs

Re: Stitch in Time December 2017

Eva, you didn't miss anything. I screwed up and didn't start the Stitch. Thanks for getting us started. Sorry about your driver's license issue. Hope you can continue to do well on the reduced medication. Crossing my fingers for Pat and his court stuff. The doll dress is lovely. So happy you are sewing. So very good to hear from you.

I'm busy making gifts for the family. I'll have to get a picture. I'm taking my little, tiny pocket dragons and harnessing them in a small chain with a lobster clip on the end. It can be clipped to a key ring, rear view mirror, backpack, purse, whatever. Having made a number of them (4 out of 12 so far) I've determined these are not product worthy to go into my store. I think the chain is too delicate and the felt would tear if attached to a set of keys stuffed into a pocket. I can give them to the family without worry because chances are, most will set them on a knick-knack shelf rather than use them. And, if they do and the item is damaged, I can fix them without getting bad reviews in my shop. I'm also working on a gift for DH. A little back story. We frequently end up in sporting goods stores here in Idunno. Years ago, DH commented how great the mounted deer (and other critter) heads were. How he'd be proud to have one on the wall. I think he was teasing, but I tend to realize something like that after the fact. I immediately said, "NO!" Besides, I added we don't have the room for something like that. Ever since, every time he sees a mounted animal head trophy thing, he teases me about getting one for our house. I found a pattern for a felt animal head mounted on a board. It's not full size, it's actually very small. Anyway, I'm making him one for Yule this year. He'll get a mounted deer head that's small enough (and cute) to hang on the wall.

Re: Stitch in Time December 2017

Debby what a great idea for the DH. The greatest gifts come with a running joke. You will be a star with this gift. John and I use to do these kind of things. I miss the little things about not having him any more. It has been 4 years but the pain is some times right there

Found out my birth mother died on the 2nd. My sister who did keep in touch with her called and told me. None of the family had called her and she found out from a distant relative. I have a very big extended family but as you can see no one keeps in touch. I found one of my half brothers on fb today and sent him a message. Maybe or maybe not I will hear from him. I never met him and he is one year younger than my oldest son. My mother was married 3 times and we never kept in touch. My sister and I were raised by my mothers parents and had a very good life. My grandparents kids, three, were all very far apart so my uncle was only 7 when I was born. My sister is only 14 months younger than me.

So today I started to machine quilt the little bear quilt I am working on It will take a few days as it is black thread on a red and black plaid background. I seem to always do the hard things

Re: Stitch in Time December 2017

Eva, I'm sorry about your mom. Tho' it sounds like you weren't really close to her. It's hard to keep in touch with family, even on FB. I sometimes barely get a chance to talk with my son. Everyone always seems so busy. Good luck with the black quilting. I'm avoiding using black on the little dragons I'm making the family. Even tho' my son, my brother, and my sister-in-law will all tell you black is their favorite color.

Continuing to work on gifts. DH has put in to change shifts at the end of the month. He's not doing well on night shift either. He's changing from 3 or 4, 12 hour shifts a week, to 5, 8 hour shifts a week. He'll be working swing. At least I'll see daylight again. I expect that during the summer, night shift wouldn't be quite so hard. But during the winter and this far north, there is very limited daylight. We might as well be living in the arctic with working night shift.

Re: Stitch in Time December 2017

Busy couple of days for me. Pat left for Sacamento about 1am on Wed/Thur night. He got there about 10am on Thursday morning.

I had to go Thursday, yesterday, to the DMV and pick up paperwork for the eye doctor so that I can drive again. My driving time will end on Wed the 13th if I didn't get the paperwork to Phoenix. So did that and then stopped at the eye doctor and got an appointment for today. My eyes have not changed since I saw him last year on the 12th of December so he gave me another year before I have to go through this again. He did warn me that I am on the borderline and if my eyes change, I will lose my license to drive. He also gave me a doctor who specializes in macular degeneration who is in Laughlin a couple of times a month that I need to go see. I will make an appointment with him and make sure Pat takes me over there It is only across the river and about 15 miles up the road. That will probably have to wait until January as Pat has a messy schedule for the rest of December. He will be a crew leader when he goes back to work so other than an extra $1 an hour, I don't know what that means to him.

I am going to be selling some of my doll clothes on FB this coming Monday night on one of the groups that I am in. Don't know how it will come out because the groups are kind of going downhill and not many people on there any more. Oh well, maybe I can make enough money to pay for the new glasses I ordered today.

Re: Stitch in Time December 2017

Eva, so glad your eyes are stable and you can still drive. I know that means a lot to your independence and lifestyle. Hope the new specialist will be able to keep your eyes working properly. Good luck with the clothing sale.

Still making dragons for the family. I'm 2/3 done. I have exactly 12 to make, so fractions are fairly easy. Still need to finish a book commission. That is a job I'm procrastinating. Lots of family drama around it. My mom is very self centered and thoughtless when it comes to watching what she says around family. Add in addition, even tho' all her children have adult children (hence all her grandchildren are adults as well) she treats us all like we were wet behind the ears and don't know anything. My sister-in-law (whose birthday is Christmas day) had enough and is no longer speaking to mom. My SIL is also going through a lot of medical stuff right now. Mom wants to give her one of my blank books for a birthday present only she wants me to send it without explanation so it gets there by Christmas and her birthday. I am on reasonably good terms with my SIL and don't really want to involve myself in the drama. This feels like involvement and I don't know quite what I'm going to do about it. Hence the procrastination.

Re: Stitch in Time December 2017

Debby, I totally understand the family drama. I don't think I would make the book. I know when my mother died on Dec 2, people were wondering why I didn't do something or say something about her. I hadn't talked or seen her in almost 40 years and she didn't raise me so it was like a stanger died. That is just the way some families are. It is best to just distance yourself from all the drama.

Well my dress sale is tonight but don't think I will do well as there are not many people signed up for the sale. There is a little drama amount the groups and there seems to be a group who thinks they a better than the rest of us They broke off from the group I am in about a year ago. They have the high prices on all their items. I can't afford them and I don't know who can. I can't pay $40 to $60 for a doll dress I don't spend that kind of money on my own clothes. Debby, remember when we were all doing bears and the prices got so high? Look what happened to the bear market. There are a few people who still sell those expensive bears but even they don't sell ike they use too. One of them who is a good friend of mine even has gone into selling other things becauses of low sales.

Re: Stitch in Time December 2017

Eva, the book will get made. I just think that it's a shame that mom and SIL can't be mature about things. Sorry about the dress sale projection, hope it goes well in spite of your doubts. I was just talking to a teddy bear artist in England this week who was bemoaning the fact that she can't make a living at bear making. I told her, nicely, that she missed the boat on that one and she needed to look at other streams of income.

Still trying to get the gifts all made. Last night I was trying to work and all my joints were aching. I had the wood stove going and the temp in the dining area where we have a thermometer registered 80F. Should be warm enough. But that heat wasn't getting into the room where I work. When I put on a sweatshirt and fingerless gloves, then I had a lot less pain. Will be implementing the bundling up protocol tonight and hopefully can get some work done.

Re: Stitch in Time December 2017

Well the dress sale went better than I thought it would. Sold 2/3rd of the dresses and made enough money to pay for my new glasses. Decided to put the dolls away that I sold the dresses on insteat of redressing them and put them back on the shelves. Got two full boxes of dolls and still didn't have enough room to box them all so will need to buy more boxes. Want to pack up another shelving unit too so will need lots of boxes and then will have Pat take them to the shed.

Pat was off work the last two weeks. First week he went to Sacramento. Thoght he would get a lot done there and nothing got done. He came home disappointed. Second week he was sick for a few days with a cold. The people he stayed with in Sacramento wouldn't turn the heat on. Only used space heaters in a couple of rooms and Pat about froze. We have been using our heat here the last month at night because it gets down in the lower 50's. The last couple of days it didn't even get up to the low 60's so the heat has to run a little in the morning. We only set the heat at 73. If John was still with us we would have the heat at 80 but Pat and I don't like it that high.

So Pat is back to work tonight for 4 days and then 2 days off (Christmas Eve and Christmas) and then works 9 days straight. Seeing we don't do much for the holidays any more, I asked him if he wanted to go eat at the casino or stay home. He wasn't sure yet so we will probably just stay home.

Got our usual cookies and candy from DIL and son. DIL sells her cookies and candy around her town and has a booth in the summer. She does quite well at it. So I have a sugar overload with the goodies. Then also got my crocheted tablecloth that my daughter made. That I knew I was getting. I had asked her to make me one. I will get some pictures tomorrow to show you all what she does.

Tomorrow I have to go to the pain clinic for my usual monthly appointment and then fight the crowds to pick up a few groceries for the rest of the week. That will probably be the last time I am out of th house until next week. Think I have to stop and get gas too. Only put gas in the car about every 2 to 3 months as I don't go very far.

Re: Stitch in Time December 2017

Eva, glad the sale went well and you were able to pay for your new glasses. Have you thought about selling off some of the dolls rather than storing them all? Sorry Pat got nothing accomplished when he went to California. Hope he gets over that cold quickly. Yeah, Christmas around my house isn't much either because DH works. This year he's working both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Since DH is working the holiday, we are celebrating today. DH loved the little mounted deer head I made him. Need to get a picture of that. He's still got another work week of nights, then he'll be on swing shift. I will be so glad to get off nights. I've been taking a break from sewing and have been playing with some new watercolors I bought. I'm not very good at it. But, that is what practice is for.

Re: Stitch in Time December 2017

Well it finally took the picture.
'
Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday.

Here is a quilt I made up over the last month. It is a panel and then I added the batting and fleece backing and machine quilted the whole thing This is the black thread that I talked about before. The thread kept breaking too so I had to rethread the needle a lot. Not a good thing to have to do, so it took me a long time to quilt this small blanket. I have another one to do. I wonder if I will get it done before next Christmas.

Christmas here is just Pat and I so will have a light dinner and watch tv and nap. Same as every day around here.

Hugs to all.

Re: Stitch in Time December 2017

Eva, Merry Christmas. Sometimes the holiday is just another day. And, it's ok. The quilt is very cute. On the breaking thread, sounds like the thread was old. It would have been better to find a new spool. I know you've got to have more than one spool of black thread.

Of course, DH worked last night and will again tonight. So we actually celebrated on the 21st. I hope everyone has a safe holiday.

Hope you all enjoyed Christmas. Nearly the New Year! No snow here but lots of rain. The towns further to the north of the county had a light fall of snow the other day.

I’m busy knitting another dog coat.
