Untitled Portrait

MY IMAGE(S):

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: Untitled Portrait
Year Created:
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Plastic
Dimension: 3x4 Inches
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
This is a very small painting -- four inches tall. Painted in Galeria acrylics on PVC board with acrylic gesso. I found that the acrylics are very transparent as even the titanium white needs multiple coats for opaque coverage. I actually like the broken/layered quality this provides. This is my first time holding a brush in over a year. Fear, discouragement, and life managed to get in the way and I've been trying to find the courage to get back into it. Starting again with tiny formats because it's less intimidating and I can complete a small painting in an hour or two.

NB: The photo is color corrected to the best of my abilities so that it matches the actual painting. It isn't 100% but it's close enough. The iphone camera appears to have limited dynamic range, so the light areas get blown out and all the colors shift dramatically to what the image processor "thinks" the image should look like. I'm sure others have had to deal with this as well.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
All comments are welcome. In particular, what I should focus on to improve, given my limited time allowance.

Re: Untitled Portrait

The boy looks good, colors are good..
Not a lot to critique really, more of a style thing..
I prefer a thicker paint coverage myself..

Re: Untitled Portrait

The shadow shape and strength is not consistent between the boys hair and its body. The surfaces of the clothes facing down should be darker to keep the same implied direction of light from the hair.
