Question Rock on the River WIP

Hi guys! I could use a little advise on this painting. I am doing this for someone, in her husband's memory. I was given 2 pics and asked if I could do a painting incorporating them both. Here is what I have come up with so far.

My question is, "Should I add a large evergreen tree behind the big rock?" This is a very special painting and I want it to be a good one. I was wondering if I should have gone a little lighter on the distant trees. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Rock on the River WIP

without the reference photo i'm guessing ...
where's the waterfall pool?
some glimmers of space between the trees at the bottom of the cliff would provide interest/depth and a potentially nice focal area.
the lime green foreground could be broken up some
the path could use some detailing
i don't think i'd add any more trees

size? medium?

Re: Rock on the River WIP

I'm not clear on the water/river part, I see a falls above, but foreground is not clear on water vs road/path??
The part that goes off to the right seems "wormy" instead of feeling like it goes into the distance - plus takes viewer out of the painting..
the images might help us to give better ideas..

Re: Rock on the River WIP

Size 11 x 14
Medium- Acrylic
here are the pics

The falls being the important part and

And the rock, minus spray paint, being the other important part.

I like the idea of maybe a peek of water through the trees. In reality, the rock is down river from the falls and the river runs just behind the trees. But you can't see the falls from the rock.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Rock on the River WIP

Thank you for your input on this one. I have completed it and took a few hints from you. I changed the path slightly and then added a new evergreen on the right. (The path actually goes behind the rock to the river or to the right and up a stairwell that takes you up by the falls.) I also added a little bit of blue water in behind the trees, behind the big rock. Client coming by this evening to see it. (Fingers crossed)
Here it is...

I think it works, but I am just an amateur. ☺
