Tools needed for a beginner to cut glass to cover a dining table?

I have several large pieces of glass from an office that closed and I would like to cut them to fit my dining table and a few other tables. What tools do you recommend? Do you know a link to a good tutorial?

Thanks

Here is a link for stained glass tools for beginners which is a good start. That said, are you looking to do just straight cuts? What did you have in mind as far as shapes.

For straight cuts you will only need a glass cutter and maybe the breaking pliers. I was able to cut a long mirror once with only those tools but the edges were eventually wrapped in wood. If you will have exposed edges than you will also need to grind the edges smooth with a scythe stone.

If the glass is tempered (heat treated) it will shatter when you attempt to cut it. You may also find it difficult to even get the scoreline to run. If, as you say, the glass is from a commercial setting it most likely is tempered.

A glass supplier could tell you if it's tempered if there's no acid-etched label on the pieces. Older glass may not have that as it wasn't always law.

Put 'Tempered glass identification' into Google. Lots of hits come up.
