Looking for a way to paint very fine lines with oil

Hi,

I am looking on a way to get very very fine lines with oil over some oil layers? Hairs or parts of houses. With egg tempra is it possible, but not over oil layers.

While this is a good question, it does not pertain to color as such. So I suggest that you ask it over in the Oil Painting forum.

A mahl stick, a rigger brush, or a script liner. Dilute your paint using medium for easy manipulation.

You can also use a ruler over dried paint.

Copal varnish was an excellent medium for making fine lines in oil paint, but it is out of favor nowadays.

For straight lines the edge of a painting knife might do the trick.

Razor blade, or razor knife in dried, or nearly dried paint. Then use color to "antique" it (paint goes only into the scores made with the razor blade) when it is dry and the color can just be cleaned off of the dry color. Obviously use a very light touch so as not to go through the canvas, or paper. It is probably best to use this method on wooden panel.
