Scavenger Hunt #520 - Nov 20 - 29

Scavenger Hunt #520 - Nov 20 - 29

If you've done at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one, we'd really appreciate it! You can sign up by posting your name and the current hosting list stickie on Artwork from Life forum:

http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=366347

Rules for Hunting:

* All items on the list must be sketched from life--not imagination nor photo references
* Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed to by unanimous vote among the participants
* You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count those objects as separate list items, but no single object can count for more than one list item.
* All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you sketch and post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.

Do as many or as few items as you like; you don't have to finish the entire list to participate! You don't have to comment on every post, but comment, if and when you can.

Scavenger Hunts last for 9 days, with the next hunt starting on the 9th day.

Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you to do each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are also welcome!

Re: Scavenger Hunt #520 - Nov 20 - 29

Hi everyone,

So I did the challenge of taping a pen to a yard/metre stick and drawing on the floor. It was so fun!! Here's a photo of me doing so:

I used my foot to keep the paper from moving away. And I braced the stick against my hip. My coworker got inspired to try this too ... she's vertically challenged so we put her on a step stool because her legs are not 39" from the ground, lol.

Here we go: these are gel pen on the back of printer paper (yay recycling!)

1. three ellipses
trial 1:

trial 2:

2. four kinds of paper (waxed, post-it, spiral notebook, and paper towel)

3. three kinds of footwear (sandal, running shoe, and clog):
trial 1:

trial 2:

5. spoon
6. (utility) knife
7. staple remover as a substitute for fork
8. measuring cup as substitute for ladle:

EP - I laughed the whole time scrolling through your sketches thinking of 'vertically challenged" friend drawing from a stool. Hey do we get to see her efforts too? Considering the method the sketches are shaky but look like the items.

Joan - Thanks. I boxed out a page in a 9x12 in sketch book so now have to scramble to fill them.

Keep sketching
Joe

Joe - yay you chuckled Yes this was shaky - rather like drawing with your non-dominant hand. There is some flex in the yardstick and for the smoothest lines I needed to draw away from my body. Coming back in towards my body I got the sawblade marks like on that spoon handle. Regarding my coworker's shetches, I will ask her permission regarding posting.

Heya

@EP what a wonderful list to hunt ...
Nice tutorial on the challenge Love this much...

@JF Hey , the toaster makes me feel to go for some tea time snacks here..

Best for setting: Sketch

Afternoon tea at this eccentric Mayfair spot is taken in the Gallery restaurant, decorated throughout in the prettiest shades of pink and topped with a domed ceiling - thereby creating the illusion of dining inside a giant fondant fancy. Scalloped chairs and velvety-soft banquettes add to the whimsical setting, which is subverted by the presence of more than 200 irreverent illustrations from artist David Shrigley.

Tea gets underway with a glass of champagne poured with theatrical aplomb by a member of the designer-clad staff. Next up comes the tea master, who provides a sensory tour of the various brews, including rosebud, followed by a caviar tasting lesson from a pink-suited butler. The feast proper is a delightful (and generously replenished) array of sandwiches, cakes, pastries and scones, served up with a delicious slice of Shrigley witticisms on the Caverswall china. The Gallery at Sketch is part afternoon tea, part masterpiece.

Top treat: Igor, named after chef Pierre Gagnaire’s dog, is a moreish layering of pumpernickel bread, velvety tomato chutney, baby gem lettuce and homemade mayonnaise, topped off with a bow of chives and a peppery strip of daikon radish. Woof.
Address: 9 Conduit St, London W1S 2XG
Days and times: daily midday to 4.30pm
Cost: £58pp or £72pp with champagne.

I´m with the Champagne ...

It´s quite a challenging list will bring my skills to the edge...

All on a A5 size paper mmh ...

Well nevermind i switch to Bonsai style somehow..

Cheers from W.P. and the cold side of the earth , now sharpening the pen ...

Re: Scavenger Hunt #520 - Nov 20 - 29

Hi ya’ll -

BIG start of the hunt…….everyone hanging around the starting line….and EP whips out a yard stick….aaaaack….my yardstick is made of flimsy metal…..
but great list, gurl. Fun stuff.

And an enchanting monologue of dreamy dining pleasures , thanks WP.

Joe - LOVE the little windows complete with toaster environment. Waitting for the toast is a pleasant experience to me. And all the cool stuff that goes on toast……haven’t had breakfast yet….

I am SO hoping to get alot of these sketches done this hunt…….sure you know the feeling.

Happy Sketching

EP, you always leave me smiling. My yardstick is the flimsy metal as well. I'll see what I can do. This is a fun group to be in.

Thanks, All!!!

WP, a bigger challenge for you on small paper, maybe you could open up a big paper bag or wrapping paper!! The tea room sounds fantastic and I don't drink much tea. Champagne it would be!

Joe, lovely toaster and perspective. Clever for pops. I like your flatware. Have fun with the journaling .. somewhat like my blog.

Looking forward to this.....

I sketched in the big book with a Prismacolor 01 and a chisel for lettering. Alas, no yardstick.

Number 1, pops when it works
Number 2, pops when it breaks
