First attempt

So this was my first attempt at painting on my own. It is done on a standard size card stock paper because I didn't know if I could even paint and didn't want to waste canvas. I was very happy with my first attempt and it inspired me to do more. I have done several paintings since then. I love the feeling I get when I'm painting. All stress goes away. Best drug ever. Ok for some reason it's not letting me upload. I'll try to post it separately

Re: First attempt

I think you have to have a certain amount of posts before you can upload an image, but it's not a lot. You should be almost there.

Re: First attempt

I tried uploader and attachment feature. It lets me upload on both but then sticks on that Screen that says tap on your picture to add it to your post but doesn't do anything. On the attachment screen it lets me choose a file then click upload and then it doesn't go anywhere from there. Worked fine yesterday. I guess I will keep trying

Re: First attempt

Welcome! I'm looking forward to seeing your work. I paint a lot of greeting cards. Its quick and fun to do. As soon as I get around to taking a pic of some, I'm going to post them here. I'm just lazy.

When I first started out painting and didn't want to use a canvas yet, I painted on pieces of thick cardboard boxes from the grocery store, cut to size and primed. Worked great and lasted for years. They framed well too.

Re: First attempt

Cheryl, you're well on your way!
There's a beautiful sense of light on that part through the trees.
The birches show good variation too, nice arrangement..... my personal preference is to avoid black paint ... in nature, darks are made from colour and 'black' made from mix of colours is much richer and gives more life.
But you're really doing well with these .... more please!

Re: First attempt

Nicely done. That first one could make a good Halloween scene.

The second one is lovely!

The third is cool, very dimensional and kind of abstract.

Re: First attempt

Good to know I will start experimenting with mixing colors rather than resorting to black. Thanks for the advise. I did avoid using black on the one with the road. But didn't really think about it as a rule but your right

Re: First attempt

My favourite mixture is equal parts burnt umber and ultramarine blue with a touch of dioxazine purple. I like it to have a purple tint when I mix it with white.

And after all these years I finally thought to mix some in a small container instead of mixing it on my palette every time.
